Diabetes Medication and Kidney damage a Myth

The cab driver at my office had his leg amputated and partially damaged vision. As a soul bread earner for a family of four, his life now hangs in balance. His wife told me about a "wonder drug" that he used to consume from a local healer, for the fear of allopathy medications according to him can cause heart/kidney damage. Sorry to see the after effects which can be avoided.

I have been hearing a lot about the after effects of diabetic medications and kidney/heart damage myths ,especially from people who are ignorant or uneducated, especially who are from the lower end of the society . Utilizing these fears, they are often prone to malpractice by fraudulent alternative medicine industry.

It is a well know fact that the root cause of organ damage due to diabetes is the improper management of ones blood sugar level . Due to ignorance, prolonged elevated levels of medium to high blood sugars can cause serious damage. People who takes medication other than insulin is on the misconception that diabetes tablets works the same way as other medicines, forgetting the fact of diet, exercising ,timing and regular monitoring. As high blood sugar(T2) causes little to no immediate symptoms, many have no idea of the internal damages to organs caused. This is a slow degenerative process with no or minor symptoms.

I think the way forward here is the proper empowerment of patients regarding diet, exercise and continues motioning. Stressing the fact that these are life long chronic diseases that needs close attention and care. Fearing the worse many people who opt for these alternate medications ends up in serious life threatening conditions.

Thanks for sharing it in did platform. Not only uneducated even educated people too have misconception regarding use if allopethic medicines for long tym that they have after effects and are not good in long run . so people run after alternative medicines and put themselves on risk. U had rytly said that people take sugar medicine only and ignore diet exercise and result is bad vision or other problems in long run and then it is believed that its effect of allopethic medicines that person is suffered like that. So very good issue u had raised. It should be discussed widely by d forum.

You said rightly Mann43 , even many of the educated people do not take the prescribed medications without having an alternative solution and thus run the risk of complications.

Taking alternative medicine may be effective temporarily but people need to know the effects of prolonged use as they likely to do some damage to major organs. We do need to keep checking our BSL to ensure their effectiveness. Misconception/uneducation upon health issues and its treatments tend to do more harm to individual. I am so sorry to hear that such terrible thing happened to this man.

No medicine - allopathy or nonallopathy - can be effective even temporarily. Carbs are the causative agents for uncontrolled bs. So logical and definite treatment for D is to avoid carbs.

I agree with you suramo. However, each diabetics have their individual ways to control their diabetes based on their knowledge, belief, understanding, medical advice, physical condition, family support, compliance, financial situation and preferences. Honestly, most diabetics tend to rely on allopathy medicines and/or with non-allopathy ones. It would be great if everyone could control their BSL merely with low carb diet and exercise.

True. But D control depends on

1) motivation

2) determination

3) knowledge

4) family support.

The basic principle remains the same for all diabetics. Don't eat what don't suit you.
