About 68% of diabetic patients suffer from heart attack and another 15% suffer from stroke. Those who have triple vessel disease {blocks in the left anterior artery (LAD), left circumflex artery (LCX) and right coronary artery (RCA)} may undergo coronary artery bypass graft (CABG). Such heart patients, apart from other causes, may progress into heart failure.
On 12-12-2017, Dr.Bharat Chandran, Cardiac Surgeon, SUT Royal Hospital, Trivandrum for the first time in India has implanted CCM to Mr. Harishankar by passing an electric impulse through two electrodes positioned in the right ventricle of a heart on two select points. This surgical procedure is a boon to heart failure patients.
It is understood that about 3000 such surgical procedures have been done in Europe.
