Eating a portion of salmon, mackerel or sardines a day increases the risk of developing diabetes by a quarter, according to new research.

Research was done by French scientists by following 71,334 women for 14 years .

High omega-3 consumption was associated with a 19 percent increased risk of diabetes among overweight women.

Closer examination also showed high consumption of an omega-3 fatty acid called DPA (docosapentaenoic acid), also found in red meat as well as oily fish, increased the risk of diabetes in non-overweight and overweight women by 45% and 54%, respectively).

Self reported, epidemiological 'research' with no teasing out for confounding variables isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

Now then, what should we cut out of our diet - oily fish, of swiftly digested gateaux, French stick, sugary loaded confectionary etc?

Tough one for a T2 diabetic
