My mother was recently prescribed the same (Sitagliptin Phosphate ) . Realise that it is an expensive medicine & currently available through a few manufacturers only in India ......as she was earlier taking Trigulin-2 (Which contains Glimipride + Pioglithazone + Metformin & ) which was withdrawn from the market due to issues of safety using current dosage of Pioglithazone .......and the doctor changed .

It was touted to be a newer salt with lesser side effects .....Wish more medicines come out but at a fraction of the present cost . It pinches monthly spending so much ........

I am a diabetic for the past 23 years living on oral drugs- switched over to LCHF diet an year back with great results. I have reduced the dosage of my prescription drugs. As far the doctors , don't you please expect any one recommending LCHF diet .You should be satisfied if the doctor knows what is LCHF

LCHF works even for children. I have read that ADHD ( Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) in children can be corrected by LCHF diet ADHD is caused mainly by swing in the blood glucose level caused by cab rich diet

Because it is always advisable to avoid medicines if we can change our lifestyle.

We are not interested to give money or profits to pharma companies !!!!!!!

It would have been much better if his query answered first and then some suggestion made, and let him make his choice.Clearly he is not amenable to suggestions.

Menonpkv,

sitagliptin also know as saxagliptin is prescribed when type 2 diabetes cant be brought under control with diet and exercise alone. I have been prescribed this in place of Januvia by ECHS doctors. I am prescribed this in addition to Metformin 1000mg twice, Glipizide 10 mg twice and saxagliptin 5mg once a day. If I am cant control my D2 then the Doctors will put me on insulin.

Insulin by itself is no harm and will get hopefully the sugar down in most people. My Doctor at ECHS or elsewhere have never suggested anything else. LCHF is never recommended.

I have been on LCHF since last 2.5 months with have been very happy with my numbers.I have been following various postings and specially medfree. I have already dropped Januvia (saxagliptin) and reduced Glipizide to 5mg twice. My numbers have been encouraging.

Yesterday for the first time I stopped taking Glipizide 5mg altogether. Since yesterday I am taking only metformin 1000mg twice. My numbers are going up. Just a sample:

7am- BS-82

8:30am B/F of 3 egg omlette with onions in desi ghee

10:30am BS-129

1:00pm Lunch of Bean salad(red+white beans, onion, cucumber, cabbage) and one katori matar paneer

3:10pm BS-136

5:30pm Tea with milk +2sugar free with Nut craker 30 grams.

8:30 Dinner Bean Salad as above + 3 egg omlette as in BF.

10:40 BS - 163

Midnight 12:05am BS 120

Today is not going great so far. Morning started with BS 122 ( increase of two points since midnight.

BF- BS 173, Now after lunch of Dal and one katori of Bhindi fry BS after 2 hours=191.

Am I doing something wrong?

Was I too quick to drop glipizide 5mg?

I am looking for help to understand what is going on.Medfree kindly comment. I am not starting back on Glipizide as yet at least for the next two days. I am planning to tweak my diet by going for raw or steamed vegitables.

Let us see.

Hi Medfree,

Thanks for the update. Walked for an hour before dinner. Had steamed cauliflower, carrots and green beans with virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Also had three fried eggs. Dinner finished at 9:15 pm the two hour after reading is 134. I have taken note of eggs. Shall not go above 3. I still want to try avoiding Glipizide for two more days.

134 after two hours of dinner is not too bad.

In case my numbers go up I shall start on Glipizide at half the doze which I have been taking till last Sunday.

I shall keep you posted.
