Which is a better tablet, sitagliptin or Gl... - Diabetes India
Which is a better tablet, sitagliptin or Glyciphage, I have been getting acidity with usage of sitagliptin 50/ 500,can I shift to Glyciphage
Sitagliptin and Glyciphage have different actions. One can not be replaced by other. Glyciphage (metformin) SR version would be better option with diet control. The effectiveness will depend on your BS levels and your response to metformin. Avoid as far as possible, all other drugs.
Glyciphage is known to cause gastritis .SR preparation will be better. you can take glyciphage after food. That will reduce gastritis. There is no need to change Sitagliptin if your blood sugar levels are stable.
All,
I had 127 fasting and 213 random.
I am on LCHF diet per medfree's suggestion.
Now my morning 2 hr pp is 119 consistently.
After Sitagliptin 50-500 mg 1-0-1 for 2 months my fasting is 99 and levels are in good control.
I do nit want to upset my rhythm.
Med, george what say?

I'm 50yrs & suffering from diabetes type II since last one yr.On metformin SR 500 mg twice daily, vildagliptin 50mg twice daily & glimepride 2mg once daily.I maintain a healthy lifestyle being in the army. Want ro wean off the drugs, at least so many of them. Can anyone send me an LCHF Diet. Secondly, do the drugs mentioned make u put on weight. Someone, (shooter George...), please help.Fasting 99,PP 135 are my present levels.
When i came to know about the side effects of galvus50(Vildagliptin ). With the help of lchf diet and metformin sr 500(2 times) i am controlling sugar. Metformin(glyciphage) works well with lchf diet. google and see yourself. I was taking zitamet 50/500 also before. now just lchf and metformin. If so many are gone off with dangerous medication and came to relatively safe metformin. go and visit diabetesforum.com/ then you will see how people changed to lchf and metformin.
good luck
I have also stopped taking onglayza ( Sexaglaptin) after knowing about the side effects. I was prescribed Diamicron XR max 2 tablets in morning and pioglitazone 15mg,Metaformin 500mg and sexaglaptin in the night. After few months the things were still out of controls I was asked to take insulin( Lantus) shots the doctor never told me to eat less carb he always insisted to avoid fatty and sugary foods and fruits. After gaining knowledge from this forum I switched to LCHF and stopped going to doctor. Now things are in much control FBS 90 to 140 and PP 130 to 160 range. My suggestion is to change diet habits switch to LCHF along with 30- 45 mins of daily walking and avoid these dangerous medicines.
Now whenever I met some one having diabetes I suggest him to go for LCHF its a miracle.
Please share the lchf diet or atkeast what are the kind of foods that make a lchf diet.
Sitagliptin is used along with diet and exercise and sometimes with other medications to lower blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes (condition in which blood sugar is too high because the body does not produce or use insulin normally). Sitagliptin is in a class of medications called dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors. It works by increasing the amounts of certain natural substances that lower blood sugar when it is high.
GLYCIPHAGE® contains the active ingredient Metformin Hydrochloride, an oral anti-diabetic drug belonging to the biguanide class of molecules that decrease glucose production by the liver.
GLYCIPHAGE® overcomes insulin resistance and it has an extra-pancreatic peripheral action. GLYCIPHAGE® does not produce hypoglycaemia in either diabetic or non-diabetic subjects and does not cause hyperinsulinemia.
