After my night meal around 9.30pm, I take only water if required. 3 days back, the 1st day when I checked the fasting BS In the morning at 7.30am it showed 171, the 2nd day it showed 151 and 3rd day it showed 123. The 4th day, when I checked in the same manner, it showed 168. 5th day, I checked and the fasting BS showed 109, having doubt, I checked again in 2 minutes, it showed 107. I eat only 5 slices of brown bread with black coffee with 2 sweet 'N' lows. But on the above 5 days, I ate 5 slices of brown bread and water and some plain soda. Can somebody advise me whether this CCU-CHEK monitoring machine is reliable for the Blood Sugar calculation. Also I would grateful, if somebody can send me a guidance mail to my ID: willydaisy@gmail.com

I too Use the same Machine ! its rare to get false reading if you doubting then get a test done from a reputed Diagnostic , while checking from the meter and with the Diagnostic you able to In-Sync with your current readings ( usually Good Labs readings are better then home Machines ) then you can even able to see the Margin of error , it will clear your doubts .. plus u need to see what you eat " Thumb Rule " Low Carbs High Fats .

PS if you eating at 9.30 and those readings are right then its better you check what you eating doing the wonders not the meter unless keeping everything constant also reading may differ due to many other reasons , so no one answer could be said is true .

Such machines are usually reliable and fluctuations in Blood Sugar fasting are also not a surprise. There is no known or visible reason for this fluctuation. We have to continue to monitor and consult a doctor if the reading is very high

go for a blood test Hba1c, it will clear the picture. After diagnose range should be 5.00 - 5.30

I use Accuchek and have calibrated it against lab tests twice. The difference was not more than 10 points on the lower side as shown by accuchek. In the pamphlet with the strips the error margins are given - I think it is 10%. Check the expiry as suggested by medfree and also check whether you are storing it in the correct temperature range

Wonder if one or two snacks between dinner and breakfast would make a positive difference for you?

You have to rule out "dawn phenomenon" as the cause of high and varying fasting bs. After dinner leave two-three hours before going to bed. Check bs before going to bed. I have once gone to bed with 100 and got up with 110. That was a clear case of dawn phenomenon. There are ways to tackle this. Please check the earlier discussions in this forum on this subject. Accucheck gives almost the same values as lab results in my case.

The meter is normally O.K. and blood sugar not only depends on what you eat but the time ,the type of sleep, any worries / tension etc.

William (willy daisy): Because I read seven days ago instead of hours, I had put the following comment: 'Hope the downward progression of morning FBS has gone below 100 by now'. I withdraw the same. BTW I have in boxed you.

Result of Accu-Chek is (+) (-) 10. If you want to know the difference compare it with that of lab report. Reading also depends of types of meal.

Thank you all you health loving people for your guidance and advice. Well, with regard to my b/fast, I eat 4-5 slices of brown bread warmed in the microwave and take black coffee 1 cup with 2 sweet and low. I tried this for b/fast, lunch and dinner for 2 days, just to check my B.Sugar in the morning at 7.00 am, the reading was 109 and just to recheck, I tried the same test again after 5 minutes, it showed 107, later after 2 hours after having breakfast , when i checked the reading showed 301. I wonder how this can be so high. I am really concerned and also worried as to how to bring it under control.

Also, this morning 27-06-2014 at 7.30am, I checked the reading and it showed, 131. Then after 2 hours of my B/fast, it showed 301. Can this increase in this manner so rapidly!!

I think there is no need for checking every morning, particularly since your readings are not alarming.Once or twice a week at different times,i,e.fasting, after breakfast, just before lunch,2 hrs after lunch and similarly during dinner time. That will establish the general trends of your sugar levels.like when it it is peaking maximum. You can accordingly change your strategies to manage your diabetes.
