long wheat is nothing but barley in Hindi we call jau.it is similar to wheat.it is available in market.

It is not Barley.

It is a different variety of wheat ( Also known as Emmer wheat; Khapli gehu, etc ). Different names are listed in link in ShooterGeorge's posts.

Now it is confusing. You say it is Wheat of different variety whereas others say it is jau and mind you there is a great difference between gehu(wheat) and jau. Its really a dilemma.

I have responded saying, it is not barley.

I do not know the meaning of the word jau & hence cannot comment on it.

No it is not! Long wheat is Emmer wheat. It is an ancient grain grown mostly in South India and Spain, and Italy also I think.

In the Northern India it is not called wheat. It is simply called jau or jaw. It is used in several festivals also.. any kirana store will have it. buy it unbroken, as per Shooter George's instructions.

Retracting the above statement. Recentlly learned that jau is different. It is probably khapli gehun.
