CHIA seeds,a native of South Mexico long forgotten belong to mint family has been found to have great health benefits .It is very rich in ALA precursor of Omega3 fats,it's content of ALA surpasses even Flax seed and Fish oil.As it is known that modern food is difficient in this type of fat.Low levels of Omega3 is associated with several inflammatory conditions including allergies, heart disease, diabetes ,RA,compromised immunity and depressed brain function. These fats eg omega3 gets converted into hormone like substances (prostaglandins) which help in to improve the immune system, decrease inflammation, decrease blood pressure and decrease tendency to form blood clot.
Chia seeds are also good source of dietary fibres both soluble and insoluble. Soluble fibres help lower cholesterol and blood glucose levels while insoluble fibres help prevent constipation and may reduce risk of colonic cancer.
Animal studies have shown that Consumption of Chia seeds prevent insulin resistance and reduce visceral adipocity.
Wonderfully Chia seeds contain all eight essential amino acids ,vitamins, minerals and certain antioxidants.
Time to add it to our diets?

Dear Medfree, after how many days one can expect reduction in BS level. I am taking ALA 300 mg since more than one month with same usual diet but BS level is also same.
Thanks. I understand it's difficult to quantity the benefit and should be taken as part of holistic management of D. Do you also take BTN supplement or it is taken care by eggs as I understand that after using ALA for long time there may be BTN deficiency.
in fact biotin deficiency is one of the cause of DM. Can some one tell how we can get it n India? Medfree is right. Its avl in USA deptal store. In my thinking Flax seed, chia and biotin will be good supplement with peanut, badam etc to add Chromium, Zinc copper etc
I am already aware that flax seeds are highly advantageous in treating/rather controlling diabetes, They have 60 benefits. I have written an article on this topic and I can submit, if it is published for the benefit of diabetics particularly and as health food suppliment for others. Shia seeds are new to me, but I can imagine the benefits. DR.G.G.SARASWAT.
Flax seeds or Lin seeds (Linum usitattisimum, Plant family--Linaceae) should not be roasted, otherwise, they become denatured and have no benefits, except they provide roughage--bulk to the food ingested. Adults only should consume flax seeds, because enough research has not yet been done on children. They contain a trace amount of Arsenic, which is known to fight cancer. The green fruit of flax seeds is poisonous, therefore, it should not be consumed, but once they become mature, they are safe. Dr.G.G.Saraswat.
Pl tell the benifitf Flax seed and ill effects? Pl let us know details of article on this topic and we are happy to know any new information.Pl furnish.Regards
