There are many like yr father. Pl take him to a Doctor who can talk to him about the ill effects of smoking. If he can read, get him books/magazines that can give him the effects of Smoking and Drinking. If he does not follow, he will soon die., PL ensure that Sugar is under Control by regular medicines

Explain to your father that if diabetes is not controlled, it will lead to leg amputation (cutting off due to infection & puss), will make him blind, will cause stroke leading to paralysis, will damage kidney needing to go for frequent - weekly or even alternate day - dialysis involving high cost & great troubles like unable to drink any liquid or even plain water. Tell him that ALL the pleasures he gets now by eating & drinking will have to be returned then.
