What precautions shall I take for my mom 92 yr old for her sugar control, incidentally diagnosed for diabetese ?

My mom 92 yr old (well maintained) got her femur bone fractured by an accident on 20th June'13 & admitted into hospital for surgery but found diabetic incidentally. Her sugar level was measured 524 mg and subsequent treatment for next three days made her ready to get surgery on 24th successfully. She has been regularly taking medicines as prescribed by the Physician & maintaining it around 120-160mg.She was never prescribed any medicine of diabetese by any physician before her accident.

What precautions are to be taken now ?

  • God bless her with good health & speedy recovery, it'd always be better & just my viewpoint, if all participants mention city in which they based/live. there's no violation of any privacy law, or privacy Ordinance,

  • Thanx Tejkumar,

She is recovering nicely.Well I'm based in Rishikesh(Uttarakhand) but mom is in Delhi at my twin sister's home these days.

  • Any changes should be done in consultation with a health professional. Keep her carbohydrate intake between 10 and 14 portions per day (1 portion = 10g carbohydrate), ideally 3 meals x 4 carb portions. uk.sitestat.com/diabetes/we...

Feed her low GI carbs glycemicindex.com/

Make up the balance of her meals with natural, additive-free, unprocessed protein and fat foods such as meat, poultry, fish, seafood, eggs, cheese, coconut oil, palm oil (not hydrogenated), olive oil, butter, ghee, and lard.

  • Thanx Sir

  • Keep her hospitalized until she recovers to normalcy. She needs constant medical care and nursing help in view if her fracture.Since she is otherwise healthy, she should be back home soon.

I appreciate you.You have an opportunity to serve your mother.

  • Thanx Venkataramana

She's already discharged from hospital after a week of her surgery. She is being closely monitered for sugar level through Glucometer and physiotherapy has also started (very painful however).

  • Give her the confidence that she will be fully all right and back to normalcy. All the treatments are secondary. Wishing her speedy recovery.

  • Thanks Nane.

  • Please give her Long Wheat Mash whipped in a mixie after cooking, as breakfast & dinner; lunch continue whatever she is taking now. Measure FBS more frequently to ensure that hypoglycemia does not happen. She will become more comfortable.Avoid all sweet intake.

TAKING MEDICINES ALONE WILL NOT BRING DOWN BLOOD SUGAR ALWAYS. THAT IS WHY PATIENTS ARE FORCED TO MOVE FROM EXERCISE TO DIET CONTROL TO LOW DOSE TABLETS TO HIGHER DOSE TABLETS TO INSULIN INJECTION AND COMBINATIONS OF THESE. YOU HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR FOOD HABITS & LIFE STYLE ALSO TEMPORARILY TILL CURE.

Diabetes is a fundamental disorder. It is comparable with low voltage in an electric circuit. In both cases all connected subsystems will under-perform and will fail in due course. It will affect SEX life also, if diab is not contained. Diab impairs the glucose (SUGAR) & oxygen supply to ALL CELLS of the patient. You cannot compensate the resultant weakness with liquor, food or medicines.

A DIABETES PATIENT (also known as A DIABETIC) need NOT starve. PROPER or APPROPRIATE food can be eaten EVEN FULL STOMACH THRICE DAILY! Try to understand diabetes & conquer it like me.

While following the Long-wheat diet explained in the article referred below, non-vegetarians can have MEAT/FISH/EGG in moderate quantities as side-dishes/curries.

I was diabetic from 2006; but NOT diabetic from 2009. I studied Diabetes thoroughly, because it was to solve MY problem.
