There are three types of diabetes:

1.Type 1 also called early onset or juvenile diabetes. This appears at a very young age and the person has to depend on insulin injections for life because his pancreatic gland is totally incapable of producing any insulin.Insulin is essential for converting glucose that we consume into energy.

2.Type 2. This occurs at a later stage in life ,generally after 30 years of age.The reasons could be genetic, sedentary life style, obesity and high stress for prolonged periods or a combination of all.

3.Gestational diabetes occurs in some pregnant women and may disappear after child birth.Obviously, they need special care and monitoring.

There are several types of diabetes.

* Diabetes insipidus. Diabetes insipidus is a condition in which the kidneys are unable to conserve water.

* Type 1 Diabetes mellitus. Type 1 diabetes can occur at any age, but it is most often diagnosed in children, teens, or young adults. In this disease, the body makes little or no insulin. Daily injections of insulin are needed. The exact cause is unknown.

* Type 2 Diabetes mellitus. Type 2 diabetes makes up most diabetes cases. It most often occurs in adulthood. However, because of high obesity rates, teens and young adults are now being diagnosed with it. Many people with type 2 diabetes do not know they have it.

* Gestational diabetes is high blood sugar that develops at any time during pregnancy in a woman who does not have diabetes.

* Diabetes caused by Tropical calcific pancreatitis.

Another medical term for Tropical calcific pancreatitis is Fibrocalcific pancreatic diabetes. This disease affects children and young adults in the age group of 15--35 years. Both sexes are equally affected. In one third of cases, previous history of painful episides of recurrent pancreatitis may be available. Fibrocalcific pancreatic diabetes (FCPD) is a rare cause of diabetes (<1%) of uncertain etiology associated with >100-fold increased risk of pancreatic cancer.
