Your HbA1c is quite good. You can aim to reach 6 but do it over a period of time.Essentially,you have to reduce consumption of carbohydrate rich foods like,rice,wheat,potato etc.Substitute with boiled sprouts,vegetables,greens,boiled vegetables etc that give you plenty of fiber,vitamins and minerals.You can reduce weight by consuming less calories and spending more calories through exercise.If you can save about 200 to 250 calories on a daily basis you will lose weight slowly but steadily without impairing your health.You have review your diet,exercise pattern and life style and find out solutions that suit you best.

Diet control is really the hardest part,I agree.But think of the benefits.I got rid of knee joint pain by weight reduction.I was 78 one time, now 73.The point is ,we have no choice.The easier part is increasing duration of exercise slowly by 15 minutes.I listen to my favorite music while walking.That helps.

A weight-control strategy might include:--

* Choosing low-fat, low-calorie foods

* Eating smaller portions

* Drinking water instead of sugary drinks

* Being physically active

The International Diabetes Federation and American College of Endocrinology recommend HbA1c values below 48 mmol/mol (6.5%), while American Diabetes Association recommends that the HbA1c be below 53 mmol/mol (7.0%) for most patients.
