Diabetes mellitus elevates high blood cholesterol. High blood cholesterol causes atherosclerosis of the arteries. Coronary arteries become narrowed causing less oxygenated blood and nutrients to the cardiac muscles. The heart can not pump oxygenated blood effectively according to the requirements of the body tissues. Slowly you will get coronary heart disease or ischemic heart disease.

It is really an usefull suggestion for diabetes patients which normally doctors may not provide such minute details to the patients .Hence all diab patients should keep the blood glucose level well within the prescribed lower level to avoid the consequences.
