Actually it depends. Check daily or on alternate days before breakfast if you have changed medicine. After sugar level stabilises you may do it once or twice in a week.

A DIABETES PATIENT (also known as A DIABETIC) need NOT starve. PROPER or APPROPRIATE food can be eaten EVEN FULL STOMACH THRICE DAILY! Try to understand diabetes & conquer it.

It is easy to find out whether you have diabetes or not.

(1) An age old technique is to URINATE or COLLECT URINE & POUR in open soil. If you have high diabetes and if ants are there, soon they will gather in the wet soil to take away sugar crystals.

or (2) You can get urine tested using Benedict's solution. If the colour of the mixture after heating remain Blue, you are mostly not diabetic. If you are diabetic, according to the severity the colour will chage to Green (0.5% US), Yellow (1.0% US), Orange (1.5% US), or Red (2.0% US), US=Urine Sugar.

or (3) You can get your urine tested in a good lab (certified by ISO, NABH, NABL, ACHSI etc) and find out.

EVEN THOUGH URINE TEST IS NOT VERY ACCURATE, MAINLY DUE TO THE DEPENDENCE OF URINE SUGAR ON THE PATIENTS RENAL THRESHOLD, IT IS CERTAINLY USEFUL FOR PERSONS WHO LIVE IN REMOTE VILLAGES, HILLY & FOREST NEIGHBORHOODS OR FOR THOSE WHO CAN NOT AFFORD TO GO TO A HOSPITAL/DOCTOR AND FOR THOSE WHO ARE SCARED OF NEEDLE PRICKS. IT IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR BLOOD TEST.

or(4) You can get your Blood tested [for an earlier & more accurate detection] (Random, Fasting or Post Prandial - RBS, FBS or PPBS) in a good lab & find out. If ALL the three are normal, try to get a Glucose Tolerance Test done to rule out tendency towards diabetes.

If you are diabetic, get HbA1c tested in a good lab to decide the level of severity.

If you test blood sugar several times daily you will go mad because it is a continuously varying parameter like the steering of a car or bus in city traffic.
