Hi ,I've have read all your comments with interest ,you are all so knowledgable about you diabetes . I was diagnosed approximately 8 years ago and was on lingaliptin for a couple of years then on metformin as well for about 2 years . The metformin was increased when I suddenly went to 15/7.
Unfortunately I could not take the increase . At Christmas I was admitteted to a day care centre for a lung prob ,diagnosed Bronchiectasis where they found my sugar levels were 20/5 . I have no knowledge of the information you all seem to have ,all I know is my current sugar
I am overweight having had spinal injury 9 years ago and permanganate nerve damage to a leg so get very little exercise .im 13:6 5 ft 6 I have stayed at this weight for over 2 years , through being very careful what I eat.
My doctor now says I'm to go on insulin in three months and must try to lose weight if I can as insulin puts weight on .
Frankly I am terrified, I don't know how to lose weight . I don't snack don't eat sugary things as sugar makes me sick I'm allergic to dairy products ,I keep my carbs to a very low level ,eat mainly salads . I tried weight watchers ,I can't eat that amount of food .
You all have far more knowledge than I .I know little about diabetes , I know what it can do . I've read about that .
My doctor said quite frankly your pancreas is worn out , she said my kidneys are affected but should see me out !
You all mention things I've never heard of .Help.

Dear Joann-ann, do not despair. One year ago my husband /diabetics, 76 years, overweight, high blood pressure suffers serious heart collapse with bad prognosis. After a lot of nightly studying. we started with LCHF (Low carbohydrate, hight fat) diet. Immediately after start of LCHF diet his blood sugar started decrease as well as his. weight. He lost 23 kg, has fasting blood sugar (without any medicine) and blood pressure mostly normal sometimes slightly on edge of normal. Google on recipes, google and you start to understand why you. can manage. You will find several LCHF programs in UK where you. can ask questions and get competent answers. Good luck to you!!
Please try to relax. Stress can cause blood sugars to go higher than normal in some people. Did your doctor say you were type 2? What exercise routine did your doctor recommend? How many carbs do you have for each meal?
I eat mainly salads and green veg .ham chicken and fish .fruit
I actually eat very little .
I don't really get exercise as I have had 3 ops for nerve compression am missing 3 discs ,permanent nerve damage to my left leg and a very shaky arthritic spine . I walk short distances on crutches for the exercise ,longer distance I have to resort to my wheel chair . Which I detest as my husband is a shocking pusher , I'm always expecting to crash into something or be tipped out 🙈Until the first disc came out ,7 years ago .i was very athletic .i climbed Ben Nevis at 65.
This is mainly why I am over weight , lack of exercise .
I'm type 2 . 5ft 6 and 85 kgs I think that's around 13:5.
I just wish there was a way out of taking insulin but my doctor said my pancreas is just worn out. I don't mind medics sticking a needle in me but can't bear the thought of doing it myself.
Hi Joan-Ann. Don't panic! I am 73 years young. Diabetes type 2, was dianosed 2003 and take Metformin and in 2008I was put on Insulin....Levermir( background) first thing in the morning. Last thinat night.
I also take Novorapid insulin(booster insulin) to reduce blood sugars. As for putting on weight. I have remained the same weight throughout, about 13st and 6ft tall. So don't panic, just follow advice.
