could I be diabetic?

I’m a bit stressed because I’ve been feeling mildly unwell but with a horrible symptom of my skin having suddenly gone very dry itchy and sore and a deterioration in gums which are unrelated to hygiene as this I’m told is good. My fasting blood sugar is 6.6 to 6.9 in the morning and two hours after eating I’m getting 11.7. I have a monitor because I used to get low blood sugar. I can’t face trying to see a GP which is very difficult where I live. Are finger prick monitors usually accurate? T IA

My son uses one as he is currently hoping to go into remission on his diabetes. Blood glucose monitors are usually right if used correctly. Your readings will change during the day, depending on what you eat and drink, also the morning reading is likely to be higher as the Liver releases sugars in the morning to get you started.

To me, it looks as if you might be borderline, but you should see your doctor urgently about it.

BTW, it is important to wash your hands before testing , as residual foods may alter the reading,

Cheers, Midori
