I have extreme swelling on the one side of my body that is affected by PD. Does anyone have any remedies that have worked? I will travel anywhere or do just about anything.I'm positively miserable. Thank you!

I wish I could help you, but I have swelling in both my legs. I think it is caused by the medication I'm taking. I wear support hose. I think I'd check with your doctor. Blessings

My PD affects my left side only at present. On a bad day my ankle & foot swell badly causing great pain & limited mobility. I find relief from what used be called a 'flowtron' which is 2 inflatable boots, zip up front & open toes. It is electric powered & pulses to massage the feet & ankles. It wasn't expensive (around £70 UK). This works well for me. I am taking diuretics Bumetanide & Spironolactone. If you would like further information on the boots I can email you direct.

I don't have PD [found this site googling flowtron] - Im struggling to find anywhere that sells this product, Could you send me a link please? I suffer from lipodema [basically unilateral swelling to the legs] but support hose cut deep into my ankles and I have been advised to try these.

Do you think your 'flowtron' would help RLS?

Flowtron--wonder if it's available here in US. Thanks!

Thank you so much for the information. I have heard of those types of pumps but never had a name. I googled Flowtron, and once I got past the vast array of bug zappers, I found the info at AllDayMedical.com. It looks ike the basic unit is about $500 and the leg attachment is another $150. I'm going to chat wiith my MDS but this seems like a very worthwhile investment. Thank you everyone. I just love this site....

I hope I haven’t given the impression that this is a panacea for RLS & other leg problems. I came across this device in the 1970s & 80s where it was standard treatment when I was teaching in a school for children with severe & profound learning difficulties. I forgot about it until my own left leg became painful due to tremor, clawing, twisting & oedema. I asked all my PD support team about it but only one knew what I was describing. She is my sports physio who gives me deep tissue massage. She brought an identical piece of equipment for me to try which I use for 20 minutes daily.

I thought the Flowtron brand was long gone but her equipment is being marketed as a health & fitness aid. I will pass on info to people who ask me direct as I don’t think we are meant to promote any brands on this site.

To people in US who may be thinking of buying one (like Donna) the price you are talking about is excessive. In UK it costs £70 inclusive - 111$. The package comes complete with its power source. It is light & easily carried. Please don;t go spending until you are sure we are talking about the same equipment.
