I see there is some recent Press coverage about methylene blue as treatment/prevention for PD amongst other things. Does anyone know much about it- it seems to involve very low doses. RFK junior uses it apparently to stave off various conditions. I just know it as a dye used in science labs...Any comments please.

PD and Methylene BLue?

Yes, my Mom uses it. I came across it when researching supplements for her. I am a believer in its beneficial attributes. It basically helps facilitate energy at a mitochondrial level which is what PWP struggle with. That is a very basic explanation and there is much more fascinating info on it.
You want to make sure to get a USP Grade kind though. And it doesn't appear more is better when it comes to dose. 15mg a day is what some of the studies use and that what my Mom takes when she is feeling fatigued and needs and energy boost.
She has noticed its benefits.
I've look in to it and in my non professional opinion it is a great thing for PWP to hav in their routine.
I think there is caution around drug interactions with SSRI's so be cautious of that.

How many drops are you using? Fifteen mg is half the little bottle on the link you provided. Thank you!
I believe you are confusing ml & mg.
The bottle is 30 ml containing 150mg of Methylene Blue.
1 full dropper is 5mg, so my Mom is taking 3 full droppers (15mg)
At this dose you would get approximately 10 doses per bottle.
We take this dose because it was used in an Alzheimer's study I believe.
There is a lot of research and testimonials that indicate that less is perfectly adequate…like 5mg…which would be 1 full dropper from the link I sent, which lines up with the reasonable advice of starting small. A lot of the information points to a higher dose not necessarily being more affective.
She does not take it every day but I believe that it is fine to and that you may just want to take a small break every once in a while if you were.
Some of the other information others are posting I have seen as well…like being careful with weak kidneys and drug interactions.
My Mom does not take any Parkinson’s medication, only blood pressure meds which it does not bother.
Likely not good to combine this with levodopa/carbidopa

Apparently the problems arise with high dose IV methylene blue. Details on this thread: healthunlocked.com/cure-par...
park bear , that’s exactly what I was wondering. If I’m taking levodopa and I just take methylene ingested, is it possible forme to do both and stay safe?
"Is methylene blue hard on the kidneys?
Therapy with methylene blue should be avoided in patients with severe renal impairment and administered cautiously in patients with mild to moderate renal impairment. Dosage adjustments may be necessary."
The main contraindication with methylene blue is with MA0I’s. There is a possibility of causing serotonin syndrome. Low-dose has not caused me any problems at all with C/L.
There is apparently a small group of people who can react badly to methylene blue due to a genetic condition. So best to start with really small doses and see whether you tolerate them then increase gradually.
I do not recommend taking this. My eGFR has dropped to 61, which is borderline stage 2 kidney disease after going on MB. It was always normal (80's) before. I stopped taking it and will retest. I don't have PD.
Personally, I wouldn't take Methylene Blue. I received an email recently which showed a picture of a brain, post mortem. The brain was bright blue, indicating that that must be where the stuff accumulates.
I take it - 20 drops in a glass of water every evening as part of my evening "medicine cocktail" (the other main part being NR+)
It helps me with Parkinson symptoms - I think It's hard to pinpoint how it would be without, but I'm only taking supplements now, and I'm more than 9 years into my PD journey.
Here is an article describing how it might work:
