"Granny Smith apples generally contain a higher amount of pectin compared to most other apple varieties, making them the preferred choice for making jams and jellies where a good gelling ability is needed; this is because they are typically tart and underripe, which are factors contributing to higher pectin levels.

Key points about Granny Smith apples and pectin:

High pectin content:

Among common apple types, Granny Smiths are considered to have the highest pectin concentration. "

While he does give you a recipe for the shakes on the video it is a little hard to take it all in unless you read it and write down all the details. He has a web site and he has several protocols on his site and most cost around $20.

themicrobiomeexpert.com/pro...

With regard to the shakes that he says can help your microbiome:

12 oz water

one scoop Fibermend This is a commercial product

Fibermend ingredients listed below*

one scoop stabilized rice bran

one heaping teaspoon inulin

one scoop psyllium

He says to drink this immediately because the psyllium will tend to gel quickly

He says to eat 2 Granny Smith apples per day since the Granny Smith apples contain the highest level of pectin of any apple variety

*FiberMend contains the following ingredients:

Sunfiber: A soluble dietary fiber that's a partially hydrolyzed guar gum

Rice bran: A plant-based ingredient

Larch arabinogalactan: An extract from larch trees

Apple pectin: A soluble fiber

Green tea phytosome: A decaffeinated extract from green tea leaves

FiberMend is a water-soluble supplement that's gluten-free and can be mixed into beverages or foods. It's designed to support digestive health, blood sugar levels, and gut health.

One thing that puzzles me a little is that Fibermend contains the guar gum, rice bran, and apple pectin so the protocol does seem to emphasize the rice bran and pectin.

I was looking for something negative on partially hydrolyzed guar gum, but instead found this: Partially hydrolyzed guar gum is associated : with improvement in gut health, sleep, and motivation among healthy subjects 2023 pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articl...
