"The main difference between the brain in Parkinson's disease (PD) and Parkinson's disease with dementia (PDD) is the extent of brain atrophy:
PD: In PD, there is a loss of gray matter in the frontal areas of the brain.
PDD: In PDD, the loss of gray matter extends to the temporal, parietal, and subcortical areas of the brain, in addition to the frontal areas. The occipital lobe is the only area of the brain where there is no difference between PD and PDD."
" Alzheimer's usually damages the connections among neurons in parts of the brain involved in memory, including the entorhinal cortex and hippocampus. It later affects areas in the cerebral cortex responsible for language, reasoning, and social behavior."
