Lyrica for Restless Leg Syndrome

I was diagnosed with PD in March 2022 and six months later I developed restless leg syndrome. I have been taking Mirapex (Pramipexole) for it and it works well except that it has caused too much weight gain. My MDS just wrote me a prescription for Lyrica (for RLS). I wanted to know if anyone else has taken Lyrica? Did it work well and what are the side effects?

magnesium glycinate really helps

I take sinemet for PD, but it also helps with restless leg. Plus magnesium glycinate and tonic water generally makes it tolerable for me.

I know about Magnesium, but tonic water helps? How much and how often?

When I first started having RL my neurologist told me to drink tonic water, and that helped for awhile. I have been dealing with it for about a year and a half now, sometimes better, sometimes worse. Magnesium is good for reducing cramping, so that make sense, and in my reading, carbodopa/levodopa (sinemet) also helps with restless leg. My RL symptoms occur at particular predictable times during the day, so about an hour before the time (or up to 2 hours) I take a hit of sinemet (or more usually mucuna pruriens) with 4 to 6 ounces of tonic (twice a day).

I take gabapentin for the pain, neuropathy and RLS. A doctor suggested Lyrica and then my doctor said if the gabapentin works don’t mess with things. So I didn’t mess with things. Good luck and if you try it let me know how you feel it works.

Thanks ... I tried Gabapentin and it worked, but I needed to slowly increase the dosage to 900mg. So my Doctor switched me to Mirapex which also worked, but now I'm gaining too much weight. Ready to 'try' Lyrica now. Uggg

My boyfriend has had Restless Leg for many years and tried just about everything. When he finally was given methadone for it, he finally could sleep through most of the night without any restlessness.....It is now one of the medicines that the Restless Leg Foundation doctors recommend for bad RLS. Not a high dose, but it does the trick.

I suffered with RLS even before the Parkinson's diagnosis. The worst I ever experienced RLS is when coming off of Pramipexole due to negative symptoms. It was excruciating. I refused to take gabapentin as I did not want another dependency. Applying magnesium cream on my legs before bed has been the most effective treatment. Also, staying hydrated it is a must.

I'm 'tempted' to try the Lyrica.
