Bloodletting

I was talking to someone the other day about "rejuvenation". He goes to donate blood several times a year to keep his "iron level" in the blood in the lower range. He thinks that this is important for the ageing process.

"Iron value"! There is a connection with Parkinson's! My iron levels are in the upper range, so I'm going to have several Eagle's Lips over the next few months to lower my iron levels.

What do you think?

Here is how the naturopath I go to describes bloodletting:

Bloodletting

Bloodletting belongs to the ancient therapeutic heritage of all cultures. Until the 18th century it was still taught in universities. The old doctors spoke of sluggish or dirty blood. This was considered to be the cause of various diseases such as gout, obesity, rheumatism, stroke and venous disorders. Today we talk about slagging and hyperacidity. The diseases are the same.

Due to today's lifestyle, the hematocrit value (which determines the blood's ability to flow) is usually above 43% by volume. This means that the blood is too thick. It comes to the formation of money rolls. This means that the erythrocytes stick together and can no longer absorb oxygen. A value below 40 % by volume would be optimal for both sexes.

After phlebotomy, there is a thinning effect in the blood, resulting in better microcirculation in the blood vessels and more oxygen in the body. It therefore has a blood-thinning, blood-purifying, decongesting and detoxifying effect.

Bloodletting should always take place up to one week after the full moon.

When the moon increases in its fullness, the blood in the human being also increases, and when the moon decreases, the blood in the human being also decreases.

30 years ago I read an abstract that stated people who donate blood regularly have a much lower incidence of all cardiac diseases. I'd been a blood donator since I was a teenager. Then at age 60 I developed a DVT in my chest. My wife saw me stop running to vomit then continue running. That alarmed her enough that I ended up in the emergency ward. A DVT was diagnosed in the left anterior descending coronary branch. Nurses called it, "the widowmaker". The clot was removed endoscopically. Now at age 68 I still donate and exercise regularly.

So they don't care if you have PD when you donate blood?

What? Why? Is it catching?

No but they are looking for blood markers, etc.

Recycling blood takes more energy and resources and strain than manufacturing new blood, as long as your marrow is able to produce new blood, it is actually healthier to donate blood because what you donate doesn't have to be broken down and reconstituted. Like changing your engine oil a quart at the time. So donating (or selling if that's what's done where you are) your whole blood is quite a healthy thing to do. Now if your blood happens to be ineligible for some reason, then I guess that's where you get some medical professional to safely withdraw some blood periodically. I never thought of it that way but I guess if it's available to have done, it's not a bad thing at all, unless for some reason it's not healthy for you like you have anemia or something where you are medically ill-advised to reduce your blood volume.
