Lim,

We are all different so you must try it yourself. I take one 25/100 ir C/L with up to 300 mucuna at times, usually meal times, so you are in the ballpark. Let me know how it works for you.

won’t the protein affect the absorption of the levodopa?

So you take it every time with C/L.? How many time per day.

Lim,

Protein affects levadopa absorption, whether C/L or mucuna....I've had some success avoiding the protein problem by dissolving my dose of one C/L 25/100 + emptying mucuna capsule(s) in 2 ounces of hot liquid-usually tea.

The carbidopa in the 25/100 C/L takes care of the mucuna getting its levadopa to my brain. I never had success with mucuna on its own.

I take 7-8 doses/day, but I am more advanced in year 17 of what MJF refers to as, "the gift that keeps on taking."

I took advice from Dr Maldonado the writer of the book “macuna versus Parkinsons“. If you take macuna without madopar you will need four Times the levodopa of macuna. If you are going to take the macuna alongside a madopar you need only twice the amount of levodopa. I have exchanged one small madopar (62.5) for 100 mg of macuna because I take them at the same time and the macuna uses some of the madopar’s benserazide. I hope that’s clear! It’s kind of a complicated subject! (It’s easy to book a consultation with Dr Maldonado who is Spanish but speaks English.)

I don't think it's necessary to increase the dosage of benz. As I understand it the ratio is not fixed , it's the same amount added for different amounts of LDopa

I forget where I read i-- but Doc confirm-- Carbidopa "saturates" at around 75mg/day. In other words, that's enough to help it get to the brain. As far as easing stomach issues when taken alone, more carbidopa may need to be taken with the mucuna. I have seldom, if ever. experienced stomach irritation from Mucuna. Maybe I'm just lucky.
