Macuna

I can’t take Senimet so I’ve been taking a. Macuna called Dopaboost by Designs for Health. My symptoms are getting worse so my neurologist had me double up on it but it didn’t help, think it could have made it worse.. There are other ingredients in it that might have done that. So now neurologist says try a different Macuna but won’t help with finding one. Is anyone using one they can recommend?

Strange. How is it that a mainstream Movement Disorders Specialist (MDS) won’t try to tweak the dosage of Sinemet or Carbidopa/Levodopa (CL) instead of trying to tweak Mucuna Pruriens (MP)?

I have seen that MDS doctors might tacitly approve of MP or turn a blind eye. However, at least I haven’t heard of one that wholeheartedly embraces MP as an alternative to mainstream CL.

Insurance issues (both patient medical and physician liability) and the lack of tested, standardized doses are the reasons why they won’t openly advocate the treatment with MP, although they might acknowledge that MP is indeed Levodopa.

I suggest that you thoroughly research your next doctor.

Personally, I like our Vanderbilt MDS who let his patients participate in their treatments. He has no problem with MP, knows the different types of natural levodopa, and helps patients who prefer MP or fava beans.

You see, Malayappan, there are doctors who advocate natural alternatives, so don't be so absolute!

It aldepends on how much u need. 1 scoop they supply is equal to 250 gm sinemet. So u have to experiment.

My hubby has to take half sinemet every 8 hours to help blood brain barrier for the first 5 and half yrs. he takes zandopa every 4 hrs. He has had pd 7yrs. It keeps him going and no side effects but he sure knows when he is running out to the next dose.

Half a sinemet once a day was enough to get the zandopa through the BBB?

I need more info about the timing/spacing of the Sinemet and Mucuna. Do you take both the Mucuna caps at the same time or one a.m., one p.m.? Also, do you take the Mucuna with the Sinemet or at different times? I’ve never taken anything but carbidopa/levodopa until now and that has never eliminated the tremors entirely.

Mucuna is a natural source of levodopa so if you add it to your daily sinemet intake, probably better to reduce your C/L, otherwise youre basically just adding more levodopa overall. my dad was taking 2.5 tablets of 25/100 and we replaced one of his sinemet tablets with 6 teaspoons of pure mucuna powder. It's been helping a lot... Lasts longer than when it was just sinemet, no more nightmares, better bowel movements and less dyskinesias.

We are slowly reducing the sinemet since its been years of him taking it, its got to be gradual. We have been reducing by 0.5 every week, and adding 3 teaspoons of mucuna each time. The powder is becoming quite cumbersome to consume, so this week we are going to start trying the NOW brand of 15% mucuna pills. It says on the back of the bottle how much levodopa is in there, so you can easily calculate the sinemet equivalent.

The carbidopa in the sinemet helps the mucuna cross the blood brain barrier, but once we are completely off sinemet, we will start adding all the amino acids that will help with the mucuna and also restore some of his nutrients. (hinz mimic)

This forum has a lot of info you can search up!

A lot of trial and error. Best of luck!

Are you taking a green tea supplement with the Mucuna to help break the BBB? I order Mucuna Dopa by Source Naturals from Vita-Cost and use Teavigo by Pure Encapsulations with it (get that from my naturopathic doctor).
