something very odd happened to me yesterday. I got so tired of the itchy eyes, nose and roof of mouth that I took several anti-histamines during the day. Not only did these symptoms improve but my voice appeared to have returned. Bass of Spades was consoling a couple of days ago as I probably wouldn’t be able to sing properly again. Fear not Bass. Here’s me murdering an Elvis B side. Enjoy 😂 or laugh at my gallant effort!

Thanks Jim. Although switch on isn’t actually until Friday. But you’re most kind. Beneath the warmth and congratulations, I reiterate the point: anti-histamine has restored a voice that hat was ‘dying’ due to what i presumed was PD. Maybe it could help others?
My first Neurologist told me that before L/C both alcohol and antihistamines were used to treat PD. The effect of both wore off more quickly as it was used and became less effective. He said I could have a couple drinks a day if I wanted but he recomended I have just one and save the effect so that I could use it when most needed, like dancing with my daughter at her wedding. I use a nasal spray twice in both nostrils before bed and breath freely all night plus it is known to cause drowsiness .
Brilliant! Loved it, excellent finding the antihistamines helped. Nothing wrong with your voice! Good luck for the switch on!
My husband still swears alcohol helps him! Well we both did the Wordle in 2 today something must be helping! No change in Meds but a boys trip to the pub last night! 😁
Good for you! Keep on singing, keep on using your voice, maintain your breathing, your volume, your pitch variation. Rotate songs, but keep on singing!!
I'm very interested... which ones and how much? My mom has Pisa syndrome with her Parkinsons, and I think it is related to some of the medications causing an imbalance with dopamine and acetylcholine. I think there is too much acetylcholine which causes the muscles to stay contracted. Maybe the same would be true for the voice muscles. I also gave her an antihistamine (Benadryl 50 mg at night for a few days) because Benadryl is anticholinergic. The Benadryl has caused her to be too tired during the day, but it did seem to help with her tight muscles, and she was sitting up straighter. I would love to know more about what you are doing.
That’s bloody impressive Adam! You also look more than good enough to be up there doing gigs now. If I didn’t already know and someone told me you’d just had DBS, I honestly doubt I would believe them. Re my own pending op, I’ll ready admit that I’m sort of vicariously adjusting to it through you. Of course I know we’re all different and it would be foolish of me to try to draw close equivalents, especially as we know it doesn’t work out for everyone. But then, research papers and cold stats aside, what have we realistically got to go on other than the actual experience and testimony of others we identify with? The way you’re pulling through (and sharing) your DBS journey to date is a massive assist to me, and I imagine others in-line for it. Thanks again Adam.
PS. rooting for you Friday although I guess important to realise it’s just the start of the programming stage?
Well much of this is a window in time eh Malcolm. I mean what you’re seeing is me on full meds that are working for 1.5 hours? So yesterday a friend came to see me and we went for a walk. I was reasonably ON when I left the house. I took 2 Madopar just in case. Arrived at the park and started to feel like shi*. Of course I’m thinking ‘well what’s happened to those Madopars?’ I limped along feeling increasingly weak, looking vulnerable and possibly a bit ridiculous. ‘Dave, I can only apologise. The drugs work for most of the time but (and I have to say this through gritted teeth whilst imagining I’m holding onto some annoying child’s collar but whose head is going to get slapped the moment we’re alone 😂), sometimes they just don’t. Even on a totally empty stomach. I can’t explain it’.
So it’s not all a super success in my life. Last night at dinner I fed myself with my better hand but was trembling as I placed each fork into my mouth (and did I get a vibe of teenage daughter looking/feeling disgusted at her dad who just wished he was normal?).
But looking forward to tomorrow Malcolm. Just hope that I don’t come back with a weakened voice and/or imbalance. Time will tell.
Thank you for this! It's wonderful to see your happy report. Glad I came by!
My husband has prostatitis and stopped taking antihistamines but I've sent him what you said. Maybe he can get some help with his voice by taking a low dose at times.
It did make him tired when he used to take antihistamines at bedtime. But if it helps with voice, and it makes sense that it would, then that's so important. Thanks again
Been in & out on HU last few months, but here now to wish you great success at every step of the process. Feel Great....if you sing again, I request a Beatle tune🎵
Hi Marc. Physically big improvement but still suffering a bit vocally. First proper tune up on 6th November. I seem to have developed an allergy recently! Although my GP laughed at me when I suggested so, I can’t help thinking that this allergy started right after implantation. A long shot but it’s a drag! 🤔🤧😥
