Hi all, just wondered if anyone is actively taking lithium and has noticed any benefits?
Dr. Thomas Guttuso is a neurologist in the US who has been working with Parkinson's patients for 22 years. In his recent book, 'The Promise of Lithium', he gives quite a convincing rationale as to the potential of Lithium as a disease-modifying treatment for PwP:
I have written extensively on my experience with Lithium Orotate on this forum. To sum it up, it completely cleared up my chronic and debilitating brain, but not any motor symptoms as far as I can tell. I also feel less anxious than I did before I started taking it, but that might be incidental since my life and situation has changed dramatically over the past few years.
I yes, my husband takes the loose dose lithium orotate and it is also in Hardys daily essential nutrients in the th e proprietary mix. He is doing well at the moment
Mark, I have been taking it for about a year. No quantifiable effect but do feel I have some improvement in brain clarity. I take 1mg a day with supper. I take it as ionic Li.
Ionic Liquid Lithium Drops - Magnesium, Sodium, Potassium, Lithium - Mood Support and Brain Health - Trace Mineral Drops, 60 mL (2 Fl Oz) from Amazon.
Blood test show not detectable. I have kidney disease stage 3 so we are watching kidney function and find no change there. I’m continuing. Best to you!!
Dr Laura Mischley in Seattle Washington did her college thesis on lithium and PD. She is extremely knowledgeable. I was on it for about a year Didn’t really notice much improvement so I stopped. I am 14 years in and still doing very well. Had DBS in 2020. Helped a lot
I've been taking Solaray's Lithium Aspartate 5 mg daily for about 6 weeks now. I haven't noticed any improvement in my fluctuating physical symptoms. Didn't think my brain fog was any better either but I have answered more Jeopardy clues than usual this week so maybe that's why! My plan was to increase the dosage to 10 mg if no response by now, but I am seeing my MDS neuro next week so will hold off on changing anything for now. I bought mine from Vitacost.com because they had a deal but I've also seen them on Amazon. I have not noticed any undesirable side effects. I saw my primary care provider before starting the lithium & made sure that my labs didn't suggest any kidney issues.
I have Parkinson’s, my mother and grandmother, so many ours is different. My mother and I had great effects. She can step over things, better movement, no progression, smile came back, voice is stronger. She falls less. Did not help her dementia. Oddly her tremor started only after I gave her lithium. I was able to do a step ball change without thinking about it, where it required lots of concentration before. My arm swing is normal now. Movement improvement took at least 6 months, smile a year. I take 5 a day. My mother 88 takes 2.5 5 days a week.
Thank you for posting this, as I was about to ask the community about this myself! I read the Promise of Lithium book and was so impressed, I gave it to our doc who does chelation and other therapy. He was so impressed that he is now taking it and is recommending it to many patients. He is an expert on anti-aging, the aging brain and heavy metals. I also recommend The Cinderella Story of Nutritional Lithium by Dr. Greenblat. He has a chapter dedicated to PD. I do not not have PD, my husband does. Initially I was worried about giving it to him in case it interacted with his C/L, but the doc assured me at such low doses, it is safe. I have been on it for about a month and just started husband on it a few days ago. I am excited to see where this takes us! Also note that he is a big proponent of Methylene Blue and I have been hesitant to put my husband on it due to the possible interaction with C/L. He also assured me that at the low doses needed, it would be fine. At this time, I am only going to introduce Lithium, 5 mg orotate at night. I may increase it occasionally as well for both os us. NOTE: Dr. Guttoso who wrote the Promise of Lithium recommends lithium aspartate over the orotate and I will switch to that once our bottle is used.
I'd really like to see what others are doing as well and will look up bassofspades info as well. Bless us all! Please keep us all informed about the progress and I will as well.
HI - I just got done reading a very important post I think you should read on the types of Lithium - please look up this post: Lithium orotate versus lithium aspartate
