Hi! My hwp tried it on the basis of a small study by metabolic neurologist Dr Matthew Phillips. However , we only realised later that all the subjects in that study were actually obese. My husband was not, in fact he was skinny snd the weight kept coming off him, we increased fats as much as we could but still he kept losing weight and muscle mass so the ketogenic diet plan as abandoned . The science seemed to make sense though. If you watch videos where Dr Matthew Phillips explains the theory behind it you can make a more informed decision

Thanks. How did your husband do at that time? Did it help his symptoms? And how is he now ?

The answer isn't straight forward because then ( 3 months ago) he wasn't on carbo levodopa which he is now. Also the weight loss really weakened him, he seemed frail. But at that stage there had been no dramatic improvement. Background : 75 years old, diagnosed 2018 but had symptoms many years before we now realise. Still, as I said we found the argument for it pretty convincing and would have continued if the weight loss had stabilised but it continued although we had also added a keto muscle meal ( very high calories) to his daily intake . Now he is regaining the weight nicely . Worst and toughest symptom for him is sciatica! And that is a doozy! Real struggle

Talk to your PD specialist. I am on on a completely vegan oil-free, sugar free diet and doing well. Read the book forks over knives or watch the video for more details

Thanks will take a look! The symptom that needs addressing is the sciatica

Have you tried physical therapy for the sciatica? It helped me. Also some basic hip stretches daily in AM. Your PT needs to be knowledgeable about PD

Did you eat vegetables and fruits?

Not enough. Now a vegetarian.

Hard to achieve ketosis with veggies and fruits.

Why is that?

Don't know. Just is.

I mean is it because keto diet doesn't allow many fruits and vegetables?

Thal in reply to TL500

As I understood it I ate a heavy fat proportion of my food relatively low on veggies and fruits to achieve and test for ketosis with the urine test strips. Even then it was hit and miss. In the meantime constipation set in. Took months of enemas and suppositories to get relief. In retrospect I think it was a very unhealthy unbalanced experience. I also worry what a fat heavy diet has done to my arteries.
