Selsun Blue.

Personally I don't use dandruff shampoo as I use the dandruff as the canary in the coalmine letting me know if my supplements are working :)

Thanks Bolt. Like that analogy😀. So which nutrients or supplements would you look adjust if the canary was looking woozy?

Neutrogena T/Gel works very well for my mum.

Bit pricey and an interesting fragrance...but worth it imo.

Unless you're bald, It won't help you with your scalp🤣, but O'Keeffe's working hands did wonders for my dry, scaly, peeling skin on my nose. I put a little on every day or two and my skin looks and feels normal again.

Itchy scalp with dandruff is often fungal in nature. You can try 1% clotrimazole cream available over the counter at all drug stores. you should know within 3 days if it is going to help.

My husband uses Alphosyl medicated shampoo, which has made a big difference. He alternates it with his regular shampoo as he’s not keen on the coal tar smell of the other one.

I’ve been using Dove lavender body wash and after a couple weeks, my itchy scalp is gone.

My husband mentioned that it got rid of some scalp psoriasis he had and persuaded me to try. Can’t believe how well it worked.

You might be deficient in vitamin B6. ("Sebaceous dermatitis" is on the list of symptoms of B6 deficiency.) If you're taking carbidopa-levodopa, I would definitely suspect this. My 93 year old Dad had itchy, flaky skin in a lot of places (including his scalp), and it improved after he started taking a Nature Made Super B Complex Vitamin daily.

Careful: B6 as pyridoxine can be toxic in too high a dose. Also, don't take the vitamin at the same time you take carbidopa-levodopa. Separate the doses by a couple of hours.

B6 comes up a lot in this forum, and it's worth knowing about. You might be interested in a fuller explanation of its importance and another approach to ensuring you have sufficient intake: healthunlocked.com/cure-par... . The author (park_bear) gives a very good description of what to look out for. He said he is taking a much higher dose of B6 but not in the pyridoxine form included in multi-vitamins. He recommended pyridoxal-5-phosphate, available as a separate supplement.

Would go to dermatologist to clarify whether this is sebhoroic dermatitis that is a very frequent co morbidity with Parkinson.

Ketozolin shampoo works for some but not for long it seems. Roflumilast is going for approval for seb dem in the US, that seems quite promising.

interesting because my HWP just started having itchy skin and now has a rash on his arm. Nothing new as far as meds go except, ciproflaxin for a UTI which has solved that problem along with cranberry juice and more water.

I put some Eucerin cream on his arm this a.m. so we will see how that works. He has an appt. With neuro doc on Tuesday so he may have another solution.

Rash is a known side effect of Ciprofloxacin and the rash can come later:

my.clevelandclinic.org/heal....

Here is a relevant quote :

' This medication may cause serious skin reactions. They can happen weeks to months after starting the medication. Contact your care team right away if you notice fevers or flu-like symptoms with a rash. The rash may be red or purple and then turn into blisters or peeling of the skin. Or, you might notice a red rash with swelling of the face, lips or lymph nodes in your neck or under your arms. '

Ciprofloxacin is also noted for blown tendons and connective tissues among many other bad side effects.

blogs.bcm.edu/2018/07/25/an....

It is unfortunate that doctors are so quick to prescribe it when other drugs may be effective for something like a UTI. I make a home remedy drink for my friends who get UTIs to try and have them avoid Cipro and it does not have such severe side effects, but it has been effective to eliminate UTIs.
