Dry throat and weak voice

I realize it’s a Parkinson’s thing. But does anybody have any tips. My voice starts strong in the morning and declines throughout the day. I drink plenty of water and use lozenges.

I had similar problems until I completed speech therapy about 6 months ago. The program is called LSVT LOUD. You can google it to find local therapists. The initial program takes a month, 1 hour per day & 4 days per week with ongoing practice and periodic checkins. If that one doesn't work I hear that Speak Out! is good too. Good luck!

i can attest to Speak Out! My husband did great with it, But he also had injections in his vocal cords as they were very weak. Daily speaking, making lots of “mmmm” sounds to motivate the vocal cords and blowing bubbles in a tall fall or container with 1 breath! 5 times. And singing also helps to pronounce and sing with intent.

For the dry throat, you might consider Biotene :

my tip came from a voice therapy expert. She said to chew xylitol gum for 15 minutes each time I had a swallowing or voice problem. She had read an article of a study that showed that PD patients who chew gum regularly were far less likely to die of choking . It works for me!

That’s excellent advice. I have never liked to chew gum. Recently, I have noticed some small changes in my swallowing and the quantity of my saliva and for some reason I have I had had an urge to chew gum My mouth is always dry after chewing gum so it takes care of the extra saliva

I must add to my previous comment of chewing gum I always need to drink water afterwards, so it helps me stay hydrated.

hello,

The best thing you can do is to prepare yourself a soup every day with 50% celery, 40% carrots, and a large apple.

I assume you eat organic?

Best regards,

JM

do the Speak Out speech therapy - based in Texas and is free . Look it up on the web. I did it in Australia and it worked well.

LSVT Loud is great. I did LSVT big as a physical therapist and there were some demonstrations on LSVT loud. To support my voice I started yelling in low and high tones under water. It was very beneficial.
