Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that plays a role in memory, learning, attention, arousal and involuntary muscle movement. Medical conditions associated with low acetylcholine levels include Alzheimer's disease and myasthenia gravis.
Good for other neuro conditions may help with PD too.
My husband takes many of the supplements listed in article. Laurie Mischely's PD school (online) had recommended taking choline and some folks don't need to take more C/L. She also recommends high quality DHA to reduce dsykensia.
Hi I forgot to add something about magnesium. My HWP does take magnesium, at least 2 hours away from C/L. He also uses magnesium oil but I don't think the interaction would be as significant. This interaction rating is from the Natural Medicines database. I asked his movement specialist about magnesium and C/L and his response was theoretical. But I try to make sure to supplement this 2 hours from C/L. Magnesium theornate and glycinate are supposedly the best.
LEVODOPA/CARBIDOPA (Sinemet)
Interaction Rating = Major Do not take this combination.
Severity = High • Occurrence = Probable • Level of Evidence = B
Magnesium can reduce the bioavailability of levodopa/carbidopa.
- Details
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that taking magnesium oxide 1000 mg with levodopa 100 mg/carbidopa 10 mg reduces the area under the curve (AUC) of levodopa by 35% and of carbidopa by 81%. In vitro and animal research shows that magnesium produces an alkaline environment in the digestive tract, which might lead to degradation and reduced bioavailability of levodopa/carbidopa (100265).
