Can you take pharmaceutical carbidopa with macuna puriens?

My husband does. Half teaspoon in juice with his meds to bring him on quicker.

I used to make a smoothie with 1Tbsp. Mucuna in it as well as C/L, too. I stopped because the brand my neurologist recommended was expensive and I got burned out on my smoothie after 4 years. I should try it again and see if it makes any difference or not. I didn’t think it did when I stopped,, but I ham having some trouble keeping my medicine regulated. Think I will try it again and see if it helps! Thanks for your post!

thank you for telling me the amount. So far, we’ve used Barlowe’s brown Macuna, in capsule form, standardized to 240 mg of levadopa,l per capsule, with green tea extract + Quercetin at the same time. But, I’m thinking of asking for the carnidopa, as there are times he gets extremely nauseous

Does anyone have ideas about dosages of Macuna Pruriens as compared to Sinemet (carbadopa / levodopa). For instance, how would 650 mg Macuna @ 40% L-dopa equate to the amount of l-levodopa in a sinemet 25/100 dose?

650mg Macuna at 40% l-dopa (if you trust the labelling) is 260 mg of l-dopa

Now , there are 2 answers to your question. One answer is that 260 mg of L-dopa is equivalent to 260mg L-dopa. Like a gram of fructose from honey is identical to a gram of fructose from corn syrup. Ignoring all the other substances in corn syrup or honey.

Fructose is fructose. L-dopa is L-dopa. C9H11NO4 in Macuna. C9H11NO4 in Sinemet.

However, what you mean is therapeutically, given that Sinemet has carbidopa in it to help more of the l-dopa reach the brain, and Macuna doesnt, how much Macuna would produce the same effect as a 25/100 sinemet?

Between 650mg and 1500mg is about the best I can do. The standard formula is 5:1 - but that assumes a minimum dose of 3, preferably 4 25/100 a day, to reach 70-100mg of carbidopa a day.

At 5:1 - the classic equivalent - you need 500mg l-dopa from Macuna, which equates to about 1300mg 40% l-dopa macuna

wondering ~ Dr Maldonado write that green tea extract acts as carbidopda.

So, if my HwP takes 1 Barlowe’s capsule, as mentioned above, with 1 capsule of green tea extract, then he possibly wouldn’t need as much?

I believe some varieties of green tea act to a limited extent as a ddci.But I don't think it's directly equivalent
