Does sinemet start working after 9 days 3tid. Worked well for three years then caused side effects and very little relief.

I’m on a second trial of 3x day because energy level, low mood and anxiety were. Improving with new antidepressant.

After nine days mood anxiety and energy level have worsened.

Should I just stop sinemet again I had been experiencing improved mood and energy on new antidepressant but side effects have taken that away.

I am wait listed at a movement disorder clinic and a neurologist/ psych but wait time may be lengthy.

This is what I have always heard.....

Do not stop taking levodopa and carbidopa without talking to your doctor. If you suddenly stop taking levodopa and carbidopa, you could develop a serious syndrome that causes fever, rigid muscles, unusual body movements, and confusion. Your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually.Jan 15, 2022

I was in hospital under the care of a neurologist when I was weaned off the first and 2nd time. I was just hoping it would start helping either tremors a little more quickly. How many days should I persevere before deciding it’s not working. I know with some meds side effects wear off after a couple of weeks. Any ideas about that? Thanks for your response. Maybe that’s what happened even though I was under a drs care

I would try to get in to see your neurologist sooner. They probably had you in the hospital for that reason, so they could monitor how you reacted. Call the office and maybe they can get you in sooner if someone cancels.

I would think it should be working in 9 days. Possibly the antidepressant could be reacting in someway?

Good luck & keep fighting! 🥊

I'm on 1 c/l (2525-100mg) every 8hrs. And I 5mg baclofen every 12 hours since December. After about 21/2 hours after taking the c/l I get involuntary movements, lip quivers, shoulder shrugs,,increased tremors. This can go on for 3hrs.Varies in frequency and intensity. Then no problem until 21/2 hrs after the next dose. I think I am on too high a dose . 1 movement specialist thinks I need more medication,My other neurologist says to stay on the same dose if I can tolerate it. Can't get a straight answer. My stomach muscles also tense up during the time of involuntary movements.

Yes those are symptoms of too high a-dose. You could try the extended release version instead of the immediate release version to lower the peak level.

What if that makes it more worse? Would it still be sinemet (25-100)? Would CR also work? With the extended release be taken as frequently? Thanks for your help? Thanks for your help

Any time a Parkinson's medication change makes your symptoms worse you should revert to the previous regimen. C/L ER and Sinemet CR are equivalent. Take on same schedule as your current levodopa regimen.

Thanks I'll ask my neurologist to write a script. What should I look for?,Could cr or er cause more or the same issues? If so what do I do?

The involuntary movements should reduce. If it makes them worse revert to previous regimen.

Thanks how do you determine if it's too high or too low of a dose? How soon will i notice a difference if I switch to cr er?

in reply toSmittybear7

Sounds like peak dose dyskinesia as I’ve heard others describe similar experiences. I like what park bear contributes

Thank you I think I'm going to ask to have it switched.

You are referring to serotonin syndrome. Unlikely to arise after such a short duration of use. But to be safe, user should taper instead of quitting all at once.

I do not think it wise to continue in face of adverse effects.

You are right. I wouldn't think if would take long for c/l to work but I found this on drugs.com....Also, in most cases, does c/l help tremors that much? Mine only tremor during my off times.

"It may take up to several weeks before your 8symptoms improve. Keep using the medication as directed and tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve. Tell your doctor if the effects of this medicine wear off quickly between doses."

It is a tough call and could be argued either way. I am concerned because poster was doing okay and now is not.

Hubby had severe reaction to increased dose of madopar, decreased again and came right. Are you sure it’s not a reaction to the antidepressant? He had reaction to SSRIs . They made him manic and suicidal.

Serious depression and anxiety when sinemet stopped working. Have tried 3 different antidepressants since January no luck, lots of drugs (in hospital)to help with tremor in right leg no luck.on a cocktail for sleep which works clonazepam viibryd lamotragine and serotonin. I have suicidal feelings, my medication is hidden by my husband. I have hospitalized to be kept safe. No point anymore no beds and nothing they can do. My gp neurologist and psychiatrist work as a team but I feel so alone in this . Just needed to vent.
