Don’t wait for a butyrate-based drug “someday.” Today you can start to boost your brain health and mood (as well as your colon health) by boosting the butyrate circulating in your body.

What the Heck is Butyrate and How Can It Save Your Brain and Improve Your Mood?
Kia,
Thank you for posting this because it is already established that PWPs are not only deficient in butyrate, but also deficient in many of the bacteria that can interact with prebiotics and fiber to produce butyrate. Butyrate is fairly high on that chain and produces other factors and effects that can also have a positive impact for PWPs such as hydrogen sulfide or histone deacetylase inhibition!
Many of the people who take mannitol are not aware that mannitol can act as a prebiotic to interact with the correct bacteria in the gut to produce butyrate. Now if they would just produce mannitol with butyrate producing bacteria for PWPs!

Let us know how that works out for you, Kia !

You can get your daily requirements in 2 teaspoons of butter a day.
The other day there was an article about garlic, so lucky for us an excuse to eat garlic bread daily. Some good news at last!!
What was the article on garlic??
Butter is a diary product.....which kind of butter do you mean ??
Any butter I guess. I’ll try and find the article I was reading that mentioned it.
I looked into this a while back and found it very hard to find scientific reports listing butyrate quantities in foods. I did come across a mention in a book titled 'The Epigenetics Revolution' of an Icelandic fermented butter that contained very high amounts of butyrate. Apparently, onset of a disease called hereditary cystatin C amyloid angiopathy is delayed in Icelanders who have the gene and consume a traditional diet that includes the fermented butter and dried fish compared to those who have adopted a modern diet. According to the internet, Icelandic fermented butter is 'disgusting'; butyrate is associated with rancidity. Other varieties of cultured / fermented butter might have more than regular butter, but how much more, idk. Fiore Sardo cheese is also supposed to have a lot of butyrate; Pecorino Romano is described as having a similar flavor/aroma.
Some (rather unpleasant) things to consider if you want to increase your butyrate: youtu.be/NUyi3UfzBYI
Nice digestible coverage of the subject. I shall be sticking with my Mediterranean diet for now- generating plenty of butyrate from resistant starch, pectin and inulin, and promoting the relevant bacteria.
This is a slightly less digestible version - but singing from the same hymn sheet
You can purchase butyrate supplements. I buy one from TessMed or Tesseract.
Hi. My husband takes probiotics but recently I purchased Miyarisan tablets of clostridium butyricum from eBay. In Asia they are well versed with this form of probiotics. Waiting for them to arrive and will let you know how it goes
My husband has been on miyarisan probiotics since my last post. His stomach issues have resolved and since there are many benefits from consuming clostridium butyricum for the brain he will be continuing with it. You can buy it on amazon
I was wondering if they come alive from Japan, being bacilli. I used probiotic3 AOR plus xylitol and I found myself well.
amazon.de/Advanced-Orthomol...
Hi Gio. I knew someone on this forum was using AOR but could not place the person. Thanks for letting me know. The Miyarisan Probiotics come in little tablets and the dose is 9 tablets 3x a day which give you 1 million clostridium butyricum. I emailed the company to get this information. It is formulated such that it does not need to be refrigerated and was discovered in 1933. In 1970 the Japanese ministry of health approved it for clinical use as quasi medicine. Two capsules of AOR gives 1.2 m clostridium butyricum and Enteroccus faecium T110 36 m. I have not worked out which is more cost effective and I have no knowledge of enteroccus faecium and what it does. The link below has an article on how clostridium butyricum (CB) is good for vascular dementia and neurological conditions
hindawi.com/journals/bmri/2...
The strong miyarisan tablets at dose of 9 small tablets contain 270 mg powder equivalent to 1 million CB.
The large bottle with 1000 tablets costs about usd 51.
Butyricum became more effective when consumed with fibre, pectin, apples or bananas.
Prior to this I was using California Gold Probiotics 100 billion that had the 5 most common bacillus
Thanks to the people in this forum I got to know about butyrate and clostridium butyricum. I then did some research and discovered miyarisan probiotics. The Japanese have always been ahead in probiotics and ubiquinol

Thank you very much Millbrook, very interesting. Keep me updated on this subject.
PS. Take a look at xylitol is a great prebiotic for the genus prevotellaceae.

Thanks Gio. My husband is currently taking 1 tsp of syncolein- non gassy mannitol-that’s all he can manage as it still gives him gas and discomfort . I am still trying to settle his list of supplements which get longer and longer. After 3 months on the miyarisan tablets his stomach issues of bloatedness, indigestion and reflux (he used to have to take nexium and omeprazole) have been resolved. CD has also been known to help with the helicobacter where antibiotics have failed. So it is a promising probiotic
Millbrook,
I am happy for your husband. I have the same problem of reflux for jatale hernia and this probiotic ( clostridium butyricum ) helped me a lot, Keep in mind that I am one without rules on food, and my wife goes crazy to put me on a diet.
I give a try at the brand you suggest, thank you.
Gio, my friend,
Are you still taking this? amazon.co.uk/Advanced-Ortho...
Hello Despe, no now not anymore. It was good but I switched to the miyarisan because it's even better.IMHO These two are the only two I can say that make a difference to my gut. I don't know why but they work well and right away.
Thank you, Gio. Although I ordered miyarisan, I wanted to have your opinion, too, as you have Hernia, too, like my husband. Did you have it operated on?
So far I have managed to contain esophageal inflammation with periods and avoiding very fatty foods and alcohol, antacids and Miyarasan to promote emptying. If I get to have swallowing problems or pain I would consider the surgery. Now I don't feel the need. The only problem is that I can't sleep on my right side, which I prefer. I don’t like surgery☹️
I hear you. Husband had three major surgeries and he doesn't want to have another one, too (Hernia). Early this week, he had a severe episode with pain, fever, and shaking so bad (his whole body was shaking like a fish out of the water) that got us both very worried. We went to our family doctor, but he didn't know why the severe shaking. Fever (for one day) could be from accumulating waste in his intestines, doctor said. He is over this now, thank God.
Hi Despe,
I understand ... Episode of intense tremor also happened to me in conjunction with fever and stress, but the answer for me is always diet, fasting, rest and magnesium carbonate which hydrates the intestine, b1. the excessive tremor passes within the day. If you know it works, it helps take away the anxiety. A caragiver who express a confidence helps Pwp, ... easy to say but not to do, I know. It takes competence and the ability to confront problems while keeping calm and we are not doctors. The PD always presents new situations as you well know, but it increases our ability to face and solve problems. There is like a line that divides the attitude of life, on the one hand the problem is posed and on the other it is resolved. The PD forces us to be on the side of the solver and a little on the side of the problem. IMO this part is more causative, staying on the solver's side will make a difference, so let's keep this point of view. This also applies to PWPS.
Gio,
You wrote like a champion who has taken the bull (PD) by the horns! I wish my husband had your attitude. . . I am there to fight for him and comfort him like the other day when he had this unexpected episode of extreme pain right above his hernia and intense shaking. I just hugged him as hard as my little body could and calmed him down. I was scared to death to, but I tried hard not to show it. We, care partners/spouses, have shortcomings, too, but we try to overcome them for our loved one's sake, and that, my friend, is not easy, physically and emotionally.
You are the champion !!!
An example of great love and sense of duty, high motivations, which are more indispensable than care. Thank you so much Despe for a good example.

P.S. If it can help you: everyone is kindly invited to move from "I the problem" to "I the solution" also a pwp, it is a matter of point of view.
Hello Mill!
Is your husband still on Clostridium butyricum? How is he doing? Mine was diagnosed with Hernia and he had a severe episode of pain and constipation. It has resolved, but I was wondering is this butyric acid will help him.
Thank you!
Hi Despe,
My husband had hernia 3 years ago and had surgery to fix it.
He is still taking miyarisan probiotic made of clostridium butyricum because butyrate has the action of clearing alpha synuclein. It helped tremendously for bloating and gas and since taking it he has no need of omeprazole, nexium, motilium and the like- meds that he had been taking since 2004.
He did not take it specifically for hernia but if you check Gio’s post clostridium butyricum helped his hernia.
Hope that helps
Thanks, Mill, and sorry for my delayed response. A couple of days ago, he had this attack with lots of pain and his whole body shook like a fish out of the water. We both got scared. Our Internist couldn't explain it. He took X-rays and diagnosed a lot of waste was not eliminated. That was the first time he experienced such an episode. Guess Hernia will cause severe pain at times. We have seen a surgeon, but husband is really reluctant to have the surgery, especially if they use mesh.
I have checked on Amazon for Butyric Acid supplements. Still investigating. . .does Miyarisan probiotic have a strong odor?
No, Miyarisan has no odor at all. My husband had the mesh keyhole surgery so recovery was much faster
Mill,
Thank you! I will order same, Miyarisan. I appreciate your insight, helped me decide what to order. I hope there will be some English instructions. How many does your husband take a day?
Hi Despe,
At the back of the bottle it says 3 little pills 3x a day so that wd be 9.
I read an article specifically on this product that said you could take up to 18 a day divided into 3 doses.
My husband takes 4 tablets 3 x a day as a maintenance dose
Thank you. We will give it a try. He will probably complain for taking more "pills."
I am sorry for bombarding you with my questions, one last: Is your husband taking any other probiotics? Mine is taking Bio-Kult, does he need to stop those and take just Miyarisan?
Thanks a million!
He only takes Miyarisan and no other probiotic . I understand as my husband also takes many pills. He also takes the coffee cherry by swansons . Getz introduced me to it as it is supposed to increase BDNF by 141%.
I'm going to try bravo yogurt, research is very interesting. It's $$, but a lot of people have been helped, YouTube bravo.
A lot of $$. I looked into Bravo after David Sinclair mentioned it in an interview. $400 for a three month supply of yogurt starter culture:
