That was interesting. Although melatonin was prominently addressed, I thought he devoted even more time to espousing the benefits of infrared lighting, both from the sun and from artificial means.

Yes but how much melatonin should we be taking? I take melatonin but only 3 mg so it probably isn’t enough!

Yes I have the same question because I think it’s better to acquire it from natural sources

Ernie,

Dosage of melatonin varies by the study and who you talk to. In studies of melatonin and PwP specifically, both 10 and 50 mg/day was used to good effect, but the optimal dose for PD is not yet known. In diabetic patients(type2) 250 mg/day was used to very good effect on the heart parameters that they were testing for because diabetics are at increased risk of heart disease.

In a 2021 study in infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia melatonin was given at 5 mg/kg/day. In a 180 lb. person this would be a very high dose of 408 mg/day. This study highlights the excellent safety profile of melatonin and it is worth noting that in this study, the duration of hospital stay, need for mechanical ventilation and mortality rate were significantly lower in the patients who received melatonin.

Regarding who you talk to about melatonin, Dr Shallenberger has stated that he gives all of his patients 180 mg/day and double that for his stage 4 cancer patients. Dr. Neel stated that he gives his Covid-19 patients a minimum of 1 mg/kg/bw/day of melatonin to very good effect. I took 106 mg+/day for a year and have since switched to 120 mg+/day for months now after taking a minimum of 30 mg/day for many years. Dr. Reiter has taken melatonin for over 25 years at a minimum dose of 80 mg/day.

What benefits have you experienced from taking melatonin

The main benefits I have noted are improved sleep and my psoriasis hasn't had a major flair since going to the higher 120 mg+/day dose. Those flairs can be very serious and have landed me in the hospital on multiple occasions. I will eventually test a higher dose when I am done testing the 120 mg+/day dose, based on studies at higher dosing and the multiple health benefits of melatonin.
