But did you know bananas can also help you sleep? It turns out; this beloved fruit is the perfect sleep aid. It provides several vitamins and minerals that can improve the quality of your sleep. Bananas reduce stress and anxiety, alleviate muscle cramps, and regulate your sleep-wake cycle with serotonin and melatonin

And they have dopamine too.

I suggest wearing a glucose monitor then trying this banana before bed idea. Eating before bad is a terrible idea and eating something high in sugar before bed is an even worse idea. “Bananas reduce stress and anxiety” is not a solid science statement.

If you have them with a good dose of ceylon cinnamon it should prevent sugar issues.

I love my Ceylon cinnamon but bananas are just way too high in sugar content for me.

How about a greenish banana which is supposed to be high in resistant starch?

Yes that could be okay

Agreed. But pairing with a fat or having fat preceding the sugary banana will help reduce insulin spike. Like adding nut butter, or grass fed butter to oatmeal can potentially reduce the insulin spike

I often eat them before bed. They contain magnesium, potassium, tryptophan, and butyrate.

Thal,

In the following study(2021) it shows that 2 bananas more than quadrupled serum melatonin levels, so I can clearly see how this might help get you to sleep:

Any better source than bananas Art? A high sugar food before bed and eating before bed in general has many well documented downsides.

Infrared light before bedtime, very low on calories and combines with natural melatonin secretion from the pineal gland.

Hi, which Infrared light do you use, and do you use it just before bedtime please? N Y.

I use the early morning sun to get my infrared radiation. It can penetrate the skull and it can also reach the cerebrospinal fluid which is important in PD. If I was using RLT, yes, I would use it before going to bed.

My husband uses the Vielight 810 nasal device. It goes for approx 20-25 mins and he’s always asleep before it beeps at the end. This along with 5 or 6 drops of melatonin works like magic!

Among other enjoyable PD goodies, I have been diagnosed in 2019 with periodic nocturnal night movements and insomnia which requires polytherapy. It’s been a month I experienced a deterioration of my sleep. Last night I remembered I had stopped eating banana crisps because I had discovered they were covered with sugar or honey. So earlier today I brought home fresh bananas. Small world
