Will be missed. John emailed me to answer my questions after I was diagnosed and freaking out. He inspired me to get moving and keep moving. His book gave me courage to keep living despite the setback.
May his spirit keep fast walking. I'll try to keep up!
Sad news, RIP.
RIP John. Always upbeat & positive.
Rest in peace john. You leave a hole in the Parkies commuñity.
RIP John. Thank you for everything that you left behind ❤️
John shared his paintings on FB once and I saved them (I let him know and he was fine with it). These are my two favorites:
This is the second painting I really liked (his others are good too):
Rest in peace JP- thanks for always trying to get us off the couch and fast walking...
RIP John
Sorry to hear the passing of John Pepper. He never gave up trying to motivate us to move.
I admired John's persistence and courage born from a belief in Fast Walking as the answer.
R.I.P. John
Just so sad. So knowledgeable and an inspiration to us all. A major influence in my physical improvement with PD.
Very sad news. It was his birthday some days ago.
John inspired me in many ways.
Rest in peace and love John 🌹🌹🌹
Agreed he lived by his own beliefs that has to be respected there are a lot of con merchants out there he definitely wasn't one god blesss
RIP John, you were an influencer for all of us who carry the burden of PD, God rest him in peace and we remain with his memory as a remarkable member of our community
So sad, such an inspiring individual RIP, 🙏
Very sad news. Had the pleasure of meeting him here in the UK. He was kind, genuine and inspirational. RIP John.
He showed us how to swim against the tide, and had the pluck of a Marty Feldman. An iconoclast to the last, and he got away with it, and I think he beat everybody, and his PD most of all. Glad to have had the chance to tell him so. He will be missed.
Paix à ton âme John. Tu as été une planche de salut pour moi. Je continuerai à marcher comme tu l'as conseillé Merci

An inspirational man, Thankyou for the book it helped my husband when he was first diagnosed.. RIP.
John and Jeanette stayed with my husband and I when he was doing his talking tour in UK. I went walking with him! I remember him fondly.
I am saddened by his passing. He was an inspiration.
Hi John, eIt was nice to meet you and it will be even nicer to meet again for a fast walking together in terra incognita.
What was nice will be even nicer.
Goodbye
G
Sorry to hear this, he was such a big personality in the fight against PD, and he never gave up what he believed in. He helped so many in this community and never seemed daunted by comments that weren’t positive with his beliefs.
RIP John we are all grateful for your inspiration and support.
Great you made it to 90 RIP John
John was very helpful to us when trying to work out the best approach to exercise. I really appreciated his dedication.
I feel indebted to this lovely gentleman with whom I had just a brief contact through email, and I'm grateful to have had the chance to thank him for his encouraging account of success in countering PD. His words inspired me to keep on the move ,and helped me through a very difficult time post diagnosis. 💐
Rest in Peace John. I always enjoyed seeing his posts on here encouraging people to fast walk. Boy he was persistent! What an inspiration 💓💓
A warrior has died. He fought and won. Rest now John.
His speed-walk persistence has helped me with my gait, posture, and PD in general. RIP John.
God bless you John, you held your ground !
I was worried about him when he didn't respond to my email. We were supposed to have an interview before his 90th. Who will take over the job of reminding us all again and again that fast walking is a huge part of the answer? I hope we all take a small part in carrying his work forward for each other. May the skies be brighter where you are John!
God bless you John, I am still fast walking because of you. RIP
Well lived, John, may your spirit ever be blessed. I appreciate your encouragement and example.
Farewell John Pepper
You walked away
(But only every other day)
Left your illness on the road
While (always consciously) you strode
As fast as possible for an hour
Heel to toe with maximum power
HU discussions sometimes went wrong
When you dropped a Pepper bomb.
But you inspired so many, including me
With the message you shared so generously.
Rest now John.
Triste notizia, le sue parole ci hanno dato una speranza e conforto
Thank you John. You are an inspiration and source of positivity power and confidence which I will always carry with me❤️
Thank you for sharing that news. I will miss him. He was always really cool to me.
I’m very sad with the news. Definitely Mr John Pepper was a warrior and left us a legacy about fighting this horrible disease. Thanks John and RIP. My sincere condolences to his family.
Now it's up to us to carry the torch and spread the word of vigorous exercise in the battle against PD. John was relentless in his pursuit to hammer home this therapy in all of us and is an inspiration. RIP John
What I remember about him, going back four years, is people on this list whining about him. Calling him a fraud because he claimed to be PD-free without medication, claiming instead that fast walking was saving him.
And most of you didn't believe him.
I wondered how exercise could help me. I read his book and more-or-less followed his approach. AIUI, you have to walk fast enough that you're worried about a leopard behind you, a leopard readying himself to attack. At that stage your brain is producing BDNF. Brain derived neurotrophic factor. This is the body's response to fear, the Fear Factor.
He mentioned other methods such as running in a field where one has to be careful not to trip over rocks or vines. Again, the fear factor.
My own approach has been to use a treadmill. I set it to a fast pace and am careful to not slow to the point of falling off. When I reach that point my feet are catching on the rear rollers of the tread. I either speed up or jump off.
I guess the point is keeping the brain engaged. My brain is seeking where to place my feet so I don't trip. It takes a lot of control. I have scars for every time I lost focus and wasn't watching the trail carefully enough.
I was first Dx'd with neurologic disease six years ago. Now I take Rytary three times daily. I wonder whether quitting the drug could be safe. I don't have symptoms other than a dominant hand tremor and small-hand-writing. Ultimately I'll try it. Problem is my wife and neuro freak out whenever I mention quitting. My wife even counts the pills left in the bottle to check whether I'm taking them.
I guess I'm done. If there were a heaven I'd thank John for his help and advice.
RIP John
Three cheers for John Pepper! A very inspiring legacy. The fast walking message has inspired me and helped a lot.
So sad!May he rest in peace!
Rest in peace John😥
Thank you for talking to me and supporting me when I was in my darkest time of life.
🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Sorry to hear this, John certainly inspired me to get off the couch.
For me, the forum will be a duller place without him😔
Never put off what you can do today. I had intentions of e-mailing him but did put it off. Tut tut. Lesson learnt. RIP John.
Thanks for sharing Astronomer90
So long John Pepper!
Maybe modern medicine “catches up” with you someday! John replied when I posted this:

Michael Mosley agreed! Fast walking part in the video starts after 6 mins!
Sad news. John’s message to us was to keep moving. Even just walking at a certain pace helps symptoms of PD. Simple and powerful.
Dearest John RIP. You were such an inspiration to all of us here on HU. I loved your fighting spirit and although I never met you, I believe you had such an amiable personality. Always optimistic and a PD fighter/winner. You will be missed and your posts immensely.
John was a kind, selfless man who always tried to help PDW by encouraging us to do fast walking to slow down our PD. He didn’t mind to spend his time and effort in writing to the forum.
He replied to my emails any time I needed help.
It was his encouragement and the book which eased my anxiety and scare about PD and gave me hope otherwise I would also be in much worse condition than now.
RIP John and please know that you made a difference to the world for the better.
I'm actually sad. We had some good conversations about walking and cycling. Peace and Light to John and his family..
Descanse en Paz !!!!!
RIP John, very kindly gave me lots of information and encouragement when I emailed him about my husband. Keep fast walking John!
