Is Thiamine Mononitrate safe and effective? Most people say Thiamine Hcl is good. Thats why i am asking.
Thiamine Mononitrate : Is Thiamine... - Cure Parkinson's
Thiamine Mononitrate
Hydrochloride is more water soluble. There is a slim chance that mononitrate may accumulate in the kidneys, particularly if you are taking high doses orally. Mononitrate is safe in small doses or if you are taking it sublingually
is 250 mg of Mononitrate ok to take? i am taking this dose.
Are you taking it for the High dose thiamine therapy? Are you taking it orally? The high dose thiamine therapy needs you to take a high enough dose to stimulate improved symptoms for you. Most people need a lot more than 250mg a day. So even if 250mg was all right to take (and it is a little high for safety) you would probably need to increase it anyway to stimulate enzymes activity and for you to see improved symptoms. My book “Parkinson’s and the B1 Therapy” should be out in 4-5 weeks. I have consulted with the late Dr Costantini’s colleagues and had the book checked by them to ensure all facts and advice is in line with Dr C’s practice.
Of course you may be taking B1 for some other reason!
I am taking high dose B1 but only 250 mg of Th Mononitrate daily... Because you have written a book, i want to ask this question which actually i have in my very first post some 2 months ago. Is TTFD Allithiamine safe? Please see my very first post in this group.
There is no published research or even available anecdotal evidence yet of the successful use of any of the thiamine derivatives for Parkinson’s. There is so much research evidence of the success of thiamine HCL taken orally or by intramuscular injection that I feel why try to reinvent the wheel! The sublingual thiamine, as a third choice, has a lot of anecdotal evidence as to its success. Dr Costantini didn’t suggest using it as it was not available in Italy at that time, though his colleagues are considering using it in their next research. My book has focused on the science and the protocol around the high dose thiamine therapy as Dr C practised it, so the derivatives haven’t concerned me beyond mentioning that they exist so I haven’t explored whether they are safe.
i take it orally half the tablet of Source Naturals brand 500 mg Thiamine tablet.
I am from Mumbai, India. Here nobody uses Thiamine for PD.. I know it from FB groups and the internet.. I get all Thiamine shipped from iherb or Amazon USA
I’m sure you will be able to find the hydrochloride version on Amazon.

Hello amit74 ~ My husband takes Thiamine Mononitrate. We tried the regular Hcl but we couldn't get the dosage right for him. The high dose Thiamine Hcl was too much causing increased anxiety and tremor. I couldn't get the dosage low enough. I actually accidentally bought some T.M. and it worked really well. So I did some checking and got help from this forum and found out that it is an ok form to take. Then I found out that you can take too much of the Mononitrate form. So I figured out a dosage that works for him and it is under the "too much" dosage. He is on 25mg Thiamine Mononitrate 2x daily and we skip one day a week. That keeps him under any chance of getting too much.
I ran across a post here on HU that had a link to a sublingual Thiamine Mononitrate, Superior Source on Amazon. We will be trying this form since he isn't taking a sublingual now and I would rather have him on that form of T.M.. I will probably have to fiddle with it since the bottle says they are 100mg and very small and he only takes 25mg.
The B1 Thiamine Mononitrate does help with his anxiety and tremor so it is a good one for us to keep in his "mountain" of supplements. And from what others say it does help stop. progression.
I hope this helps, good luck and have a fabulous day ~
Blessings ~
25 mg of Thiamine mononitrate is too less... The absorption of Thiamine is limited by protein transporter.. What i have read is out of a 100 mg pill of Thiamine Hcl, hardly 5-8 mgs get absorbed. This is called active transport. When large doses are taken above 500 mg, then the absorption happens by both passive diffusion as well as active protein transport. So if one is taking oral Thiamine one has to take extremely large doses. Thats because very very small amoubt is going to go into the blood stream.
Seeing you know so much about the pharmacology of thiamine, why not experiment and see what works for you.
The majority on this forum who have had success with Thiamine use Thiamine HCL. Why not start there and see how it goes.
No one can tell you how much you need to take of any of the forms to see symptom relief.
This is a 'snowflake' ailment: every one is different
