Hi,can anyone help me please? After reading many comments on here,I am seriously thinking of trying Thiamine capsules, my only concern before I do, is whether my taking Clopidogrel due to Angina is ok? This is an anticoagulant will it interact with Thiamine? I really would like to try this supplement as from what I read seems to help all my problems balance, tiredness and lack of energy to name a few!!
thiamine: Hi,can anyone help me please... - Cure Parkinson's
thiamine
Ask your pharmacist. Personally, if that was the case your prescribing doctor would caution about your natural vitamin B1 intake.
Sorry, I am not sure what you mean! I do not visit my GP very often. I have stable angina and have been discharged by my heart specialist to the care of my GP. Do you mean I ought to ask for my B1 intake to be checked??
Ask your pharmacist if there would be interaction, meds and B1
Thankyou I will do that.

What comments did you read and what research did you read? What do you think thiamine can do and why? How do you think thiamine affects PD?

People - please read and understand and discuss supplements before you try them.

What is your current level of symptoms? How old are you? How long have you had a diagnosis of PD? Why do you think thiamine may help? Are you taking Mannitol? Do you know what Mannitol is? Do you know what scientists currently believe all PD patients have in common? How much exercise are you performing? Are you aware of the most recent exercise studies?
I am 72 and was diagnosed with PD approx 4 years ago after I had an accidental fall when I smashed my shoulder in multiple places so had to have a full shoulder replacement was was unsuccessful leaving my right arm practically useless, I can move it backwards and forwards but cannot lift it above bust level . I am right handed and it’s my right shoulder . For my PD I saw a consultant who tried various tablets ( I can’t remember names sorry) which had no effect and put me on Azilect which he said may stop the tremors in my right hand progressing to my left side. I was then referred to a nerologist nearer to home that hasn’t really done much for me apart from putting me on Cobenaldopa 4xdaily which made me very nauseas so I have cut them down to x2. I don’t really think they help me in any way but don’t really want to take medication as I take so much already due to also having Angina, CKD, Reflux,.Psoriatic Athritis,Osteoporosis and take tablets to control my cholesterol and blood pressure,! My main problem is I have lost my balance and cannot walk more than a few steps without support so exercise is very limited to sitting ones! I have quite a bit of back and neck pain which I tolerate quite well I think(after the pain I have had with my shoulder). I have lost my sense of smell and taste is going too. I have not taken Mannitol and don’t know what it is! I also take Clopidogrel which I understand interacts with quite a few medications. I have read several posts here about Thiamine helping with tiredness, lack of energy and help with balance, all which I suffer from. Just wish I could get my balance back instead of spending every day sat on the settee waiting for bedtime again!!!
Why not contact Dr. Costantini directly and find out? He has more experience on it's use in neurological disorders than probably anyone else in the world!

I think he’s been a bit overwhelmed with all the emails and questions. I just followed Roy prop and he just put up all the questions and answers. That’s better than everyone contacting the doctor I think. It’s a simple proto col.
The thiamine part is fairly simple, but sometimes Dr. Costantini has to adjust the dose up or down once you have started on it and sometimes he has to adjust your prescription meds to optimize the benefit of the addition of thiamine. As an example, for my friend who is using thiamine, Dr. Costantini had him lower his thiamine dose and raise the dose of one of his prescription meds about 6 or 7 weeks in. The adjustments were based on Dr. Costantini's clinical experience with thiamine and his patients. On your own, how will you know if you are getting an optimal benefit? My friends regular doctor was not willing to oversee the use of high dose thiamine.

Yes,I was wondering about telling my own doctor. Does Dr Constantine charge a fee for his advice?
Thanks, I will email him
I agree. It’s just that I think lots of people are asking him basic questions which can be answered on this site. It’s just if everyone contacts him eventually he ll be overwhelmed. That’s all
You are correct munchybunch! I don't want him to be overwhelmed with repeat questions that have already been answered here, but if you are on his protocol, it may be useful if you run into a problem, to know that you can get good answers.

Thanks. I may do that.
