dopamine club!

Hi! I’m at the end of the road for CL. Can’t take more and can’t boost it more. And only get 10 minutes of on time. Wait listed for DBS, appointment is months away Exercise 90 minutes per day with walking and stretches. Strict plant based oil free diet. 90 minutes of prayer each day So anyway I’m not one to give up . I’m looking for healthy ways to safely and naturally increase dopamine . My latest find is ice! Had terrible sciatica that responded well to ice pack. Fell asleep and woke up feeling great! Since then I’ve tried it on my neck, shoulder, foot… all great results! If you would like to join my dopamine club, just submit one natural dopamine generating action that works for you. You’re in!😁🥸😫

Thanks for the tip! how long do you ice the specific body parts? And how frequently?

I ice as needed for pain. Maybe twice a day. 20 min. Big ice gel pack. I’d try an icy plunge but I live in Florida and the pool/tap water are not cold right now

Set yourself an achievable goal every day - big or small.

Make it part of a "to do" list and cross it off when completed - this is when you get the dopamine hit!

so is the ice kind of like wim hof ? It seems like Wim Hof is highly regarded and the idea is that an ice bath increases dopamine but it sounds like pure torture to me : )

"Yes, some research suggests that submerging your body in cold water, like an ice bath, can increase dopamine levels in the brain by up to 250%. Dopamine is known as the "feel-good" hormone and is associated with feelings of happiness, motivation, alertness, and focus. Some studies have found that the increase in dopamine can last for several hours, or even up to six hours after an ice bath"

"Increased dopamine was found to last in the body for up to six hours after an ice bath/cold shower. This practice can help battle mental disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder. The benefits for improving mental resilience are also found with an ice bath practice."

Some people swear by the health perks of cold-water immersion, which allegedly includes fat loss, improved sleep, and reduced inflammation — all of which may benefit cardiovascular health. But so far, the evidence is pretty shallow. - by Harvard Health

It lowers cortisol levels by making your capillaries smaller. And the reverse is sauna at night for better sleep. It does help. I am in the same boat. Already taking 25/100 every other hour 24/7. I am going to see a Chinese herbalist/acupuncturist next. I am inquiring FUS as I am seeing excellent evidence of loss of tremors. That is mainly what I have besides some rigidity. Non invasive surgical procedure, no incisions and you can go home the same day. They do shave your head 😞 I’ve always said I would never have short hair but we never know what tomorrow holds for us.

Strict plant based oil free diet

If you are referring to seed / vegetable oils then its ok... But you need Omega 3, saturated fat and LDL to repair/ protect the brain.

Wim Hof and the science says the temperature only has to be below 16C (61F) to obtain the benefits. Wim Hof and some of the video producers love the extremes for the hype, but Wim Hof in his Fundamentals courses (excellent) strongly advocates that you listen to your body and go slow. I don't have PD (my husband has) and one of the exercises was a small bucket of ice to immerse your hand for up to 5 minutes. I have bad osteo knee pain and the next day it felt wonderful, it must have done something overnight. It obviously only lasted up to a day, but it is something that's not hard to do. However I must say that my husband who has PD cannot handle any temperature drops or increases, his autonomic nervous system doesn't regulate it well. But he could immerse a hand for a few minutes and got some minor pain relief (hard to gauge with him). I'd say try it, don't feel the need to do extremes, the benefits are in hormesis, which is means a small stress to prime the system. If you do too much or progress too fast then it's a stress that will weaken the system.

Microdosing seems to calm my tremors. Mucuna is definitely a help as well. Sunsets are also a nice lingering dopamine hit. And lastly, the winner, cuddle parties!!!!

Loved it. I was afraid that micro dosing meant serious drugs. But it just means taking CL as needed within certain parameters. I do this. I am allowed to take 8 CL, 25/100 per day. And I take that or less allowing myself one every two hours. Works for me.

Are you measuring your heart rate when you exercise to ensure you are reaching and sustaining high intensity levels?

Gallowglass profile image
Gallowglass in reply toShorebirdsotherhalf

No! thanks for the tip!

RonB1 profile image

Mucuna puriens

…reason I’m asking about HR is because everything I’ve read indicates your target heart rate during high intensity exercise needs to reach and be maintained for at least 20 minutes in order to benefit from Dopamine production associated with exercise. I personally am not able to achieve that with stretching but you should be able to with fast walking but not with a leisurely stroll.

Target heart rate is defined as 80% of his/her maximum HR. Maximum HR is determined according to the formula: Maximum HR = 220-age. I’m 63 so my targeted heart rate is:

220-63=157x.8=125

Incidentally, I am a huge advocate for rock steady boxing but make sure the program is accomplishing the goal of maintaining your Targeted HR for at least 20min or you need to get the benefit of high intensity exercise some other way. I use a stationary recumbent bike and a rowing machine for cardio but my RSB program is excellent at incorporating high intensity elements as part of our 90 min workout. I was relying on my Garmin watch to measure HR but more recently purchased the Oura ring which I have found to be more accurate with monitoring HR variability, sleep, etc.

All the best,

Z

I have read several places that even a cold shower can cause your body to produce more stem cells. I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Here's my recent morning routine that seems to help.

Vitamin C with H20 on empty stomach. Then I take mucuna pruriens and dopa-boost. 15 min later I take C/L. Followed by 15 min of high intensity stationary bicycling.

Designs for Health DopaBoost - Cognitive + Mood Support - Acetyl-L-Tyrosine, Mucuna Extract, Vitamin B6 - Vegan (60 Capsules) a.co/d/6OJXtgN

Gallowglass profile image
Gallowglass in reply toYOParky

wow! super charged! How do you do high intensity biking? Settings? How much CL and how often?

YOParky profile image
YOParky in reply toGallowglass

I just pedal at a consistent fast speed(18-25mph) for 10 minutes 2.5 min for warm up/cool down. For me, any exercise causes stress which causes any dopamine in my system to diminish so immediately after I'm dealt with foot cramping and freezing and tremors. Why I put up with this torture is a question is a question I ask myself a lot..and my only answer (and hope) that it(exercise) is a pay it forward thing and that it will help me in the near future; what that may be I'll never truly know.

Gallowglass profile image

Do you take CL? It helps me with foot pain, sciatica and toe curling.

Why are you taking any drug at all to fix your PD, when NO DRUG ON THE MARKET HAS BEEN PROVEN TO REVERSE PD.

I reversed my PD back in 1994 BY DOING FAST WALKING, FOR A MAXIMUIM OF ONE HOUR, EVERY SECOND DAY.

MANY OTHERS HAVE DONE THE SAME. YOU HAVE NOT HEARD ABOUT IT BECAUSE IT IS NOT GOOD FOR THE MEDICAL PROFESSION OR, THE DRUGS INDUSTRY!

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TO START WALKING SLOWLY AND THEN BUILD IT UP AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE TO YOUR MAXIMUM SPEED AND THEN, TIME IT AND SEE HOW LONG YOU CAN KEEP UP THAT PACE.

WHEN YOU CANNNOT GO ANY FURTHER, THEN STOP. MEASURE THE TIME YOU WALKED FLAT-OUT AND, EVERY SECOND DAY, YOU DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN UNTIL YOU GET TO ONE HOUR OF WALKING AT MAXIMUM SPEED, EVERY SECOND DAY!!!!!

STICK TO THAT ONE HOUR AND WITHIN MONTHS, YOU WILL FEEL THE BENEFIT AND AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS YOU WILL SEE YOUR PD SLOWLY DISAPPEARING!

IT TOOK ME TWO YEARS TO GET RID OF MY PD AND I HAVE CONTINUED TO WALK EVERY SECOND DAY SINCE THEN.

I TURN 90 YEARS OLD IN OCTOBER AND LOOK FORWARD TO REACHING 100.

I HAVE HA PD SINCE 1992.

"Strict plant based oil free diet."

No oil in your diet at all?

Second question if you please v the reason for vegetarianism or entirely plant-based I guess, do you mean vegan, you can correct me and clarify... But I need to know your reason. Thanks!

Gallowglass profile image
Gallowglass in reply toMarionP

No processed oil. Oils occur naturally in olives, avocados, chia seeds, pecans etc. I choose to eat the whole food. This cured me of diabetes, high blood pressure and acid reflux. Processed foods can contain many extra hidden problems. If I choose to cheat (about once a month I have grass fed butter, or lovingly raised (yes I know the farmer) grass fed meat. This was prescribed to me by my doctor Jamiela Dulaney of Florida (she offers many Youtubes explaining her reasons). as much organic fruits and veg as possible, no dairy, meat, seafood or eggs, lots of beans beans the musical fruit (just kidding, not much music if you eat tons of them) for protein.

MarionP profile image
MarionP in reply toGallowglass

Okay, well it sounds like you were very experienced and informed so maybe it was just a bad choice of words when you said "no oils"... so then, just to be clear, is it true that you are getting sufficient AMOUNT of oils your body needs? So that of course you at least can get the critical vitamins and minerals and phytochemicals from your diet that happen to only be absorbed into your body via only being soluble in fat.

Gallowglass profile image
Gallowglass

thanks ! All my bloodwork is good and I feel good. It makes senses intuitively that we can get the fats we need from nuts avocados olives and seeds, as God designed us to love life and to live in harmony with nature. plus my chronometer app checks it!
