Unfortunately this is a commonly used 'fob off/dump' diagnosis where insufficient investigation has been carried out, much like MUSS (medically unexplained symptoms syndrome) which was the one I got before I got access to two better neurologists. Many with Sjogren's, Lupus etc have had to endure the 'functional' label, some for many wasted years. That does not mean that trauma and stress in their widest senses cannot play a part, because of course they can and do. Best wishes
