Constipation vs obstipation?

I'm still not clear on the difference. In my case PD causes difficulty evacuating the bowels. Without treatment what ultimately comes out is...massive. Forcing it out there's constant fear of something tearing inside.

Using colace the stools were less frightening meaning they were smaller. But there's still difficulty evacuating the stools. In my younger days I was a weight lifter and quite proud of my abdominal muscles. I could always force things out thanks to abdominal contractions.

But now it takes 3 or 4 cups of coffee followed by abdominal splinting while forcing fingers into the lower left quadrant of the abdomen, where I believe I'm pressing on the sigmoid flexure.

Might Linzess be effective here? It's a prescription drug labeled as treatment for constipation from chronic narcotic use.

Hi, I’m not sure who told that this for opioid users, but historically it’s used and was made for IBS folks.

“Linaclotide, (sold under the brand name Linzess in the US and Mexico, and as Constella elsewhere)[2] is a drug used to treat irritable bowel syndrome with constipation and chronic constipation with no known cause.[3][4] It has a black box warning about the risk of serious dehydration in children in the US; the most common adverse effects in others are gastrointestinal.”

I never had good luck with this when it first came out and I’ve had IBS for years. Typically people take it with coffee and then it works.

I have a recipe that works far better and it’s natural!

1 lb pitted prunes

4 ozs senna tea leaves (at health foods store)

1 lb raisins

1 lb figs

1 cup lemon juice

1. Prepare tea; use about 2 1/2 cups boiled water, add to tea leaves and steep for 5 minutes.

2. Strain tea and remove tea leaves.

3. Place 2 cups of tea, or amount left, in large pot.

4. Add all of the fruit to the tea.

5. Boil fruit and tea for 15 - 20 minutes, until soft.

6. Remove from heat and add lemon juice. Allow to cool.

7. Use hand mixer/blender or food processor to turn fruit and tea mix into a paste.

8. Place in glass jars or Tupperware and place in freezer (paste will not freeze but will keep forever in freezer also very long in fridge).

DOSAGE: 1 - 2 Tablespoons per day

Suggestions for use: Can be spread on toast, english muffin, bagel, bran muffin or rice cake. Good breakfast. lunch, or snack: toasted bagel or english muffin, spread with low fat cream cheese or goat cheese and topped with fruit paste. For a change of flavor mix in some raspberry or strawberry jam. The first time I made this, I cut the recipe in half, used the full recipe after that. The stuff seems to work just fine, as long as you use it regularly .... it's all natural, no chemicals, no preservatives, just a little bit of money and time invested.

Additionally, do you exercise, meditate, have time to yourself?

I saw it on the ad page of a medical journal. The ad said "labeled for chronic narcotic users".

Well thanks for letting me know that. That must be something newer because there are other medication that you can take for people that have opioid use and have severe constipation and they must’ve added this to the list. Thanks so much!

Yes. My first time to take magnesium citrate (1 gummy = 84mg) for constipation this morning. Had BM 1 to 2 hours later. I had 1 gummy before bed last night. Got from Amazon, by Trace Minerals. Gummies are great. I have problem swallowing.

1/2 a teaspoon of aloe vera extract. I have it in some green tea. You'll be pooping in 10 hours.

HiI used to really suffer the consequences of chronic constipation until I was prescribed Cosmocol sachets. Up to 6 sachets in 123ml water initially, rapidly reducing to current one over a day, taken with my Sinemet. I've not had a problem with constipation for over two years. No side effects and it's marvellous.

Worth trying.

Eat more fibers, drink at least 2 L of water and use a small stool to lift your feet while sitting on the toilet. That way your body arches in just the right direction to ease evacuation. You could also use medicinal fibers such as colon-clean. I had the same problem But now it’s gone!

I second the small stool recommendation.

After getting to the state of using a lot of pressure I got afraid I was going to tear something. Tried fiber supplement and helped for about a year. Now my regiment is 3 teaspoons of MiraLAX in the morning with my coffee and lots of water during the day and of course exercise to keep body moving. Doctor is fine with this. No more straining. Hope this helps.

Same here but I only use about 1 teaspoon and I take it at night. It is important (for me) to take it regularly, not wait for a problem to develop.

I agree. I do this regiment every day, regardless!

Hubby has this too. One thing we’re noticing is that if all of his meds are dialed in perfectly, he has 3-4 easy bowel movements a week. (He does take b. Subtilis probiotic daily and is using Macuna rather than sinemet at present). It’s really hard to get everything perfect though! When it fails we do 2 a day miralax plus senna:

My husband had the same issue. A friend told us about Magnesium Oxide and how it hadn't failed anyone who tried it. So we did. UNREAL!!! He was taking 4 pills a night and wham. No more straining or constipation. He will back it down to 2-3 pills depending on his bowel movements. That's all he uses. No stool softners or laxatives. It's worth a try. He orders it on Amazon. Sundown Magnesium Oxide (it has to be Oxide as other forms of magnesium do not work the same). 500 mg

Never tried the Oxide, but as Roy Prop suggests above, Citrate is a known laxative-type and works for me as well. Will keep it in mind, thanks.

Kaypeeoh if you don't mind my asking, I'm wondering if you have any history with Diethyl Stiburol?

kaypeeoh profile image
kaypeeoh in reply toMoondaughter

I don't. I googled it and diethyl stilbesterol was the only thing that came up. In my veterinary practice I occasionally injected it into mares to bring them into season.

Moondaughter profile image
Moondaughter in reply tokaypeeoh

stilbesterol -ok-thats interesting.... my understanding of its' use was to prevent miscarriage in cows and humans (that had dropped early in the womb) it came to mind when reading your question "constipation or obstipation".

I had a fight last year with Constipation for over a moth. I tried , like you, a handful of the remedies that are in this listing with mediocre lasting success till I spied a vial of Probiotics, directions were 5 per day, WHOA too many pills already. After taking the second "Od" on day 2, my guts started a rumbling. From that day I had gas aplenty. I took the rest of the vial faithfully till gone. I have had a few slow bouts since but I I make sure to have lots of of fluids daily and my wife feeds us Red (Purple?) Cabbage slow cooked with vinegar and a bit of sugar, a danish recipe, every other day. Any Brasicca roughage might work too.

I also take 70 mg of Melatonin nightly now and occasionally it adds to the clearing process.

May the urge be with you.

Hi k, I never thought that the Tennessee 2 Step (diarhea) could be that refreshing! There's constipation and then there's Parkinson's CONSTIPATION. I take Advanced Probiotic containing bacillus substilis at Amazon. BTW it prevents aggregation of alpha synuclein supposedly in the brain

kaypeeoh profile image
kaypeeoh in reply toIsthistheone

I understand it's a probiotic but how does it affect alpha synucleon?

Google it and read the studies. I take 2 capsule late morning after a light BF. Works for me.
