Warning on constipation meds

After having problems with the daily elimination process (didn't I phrase that tastefully) my doctor suggested Movicol a little sachet of powder dissolved in half of water works like a charm only BEWARE read the contraindication instructions in the box I didn't and suffered two weeks of unexplained severe PD symtoms

It seems the movicol has the potential to interact with other meds we take by altering their absorbtion so we only get half the effect

I was totally ignorant of the reason why my meds were not working anymore even going off Thiamine thinking that was the culprit So be aware lovely people read the fact sheets of any new meds you take by the way this info does not specifically mention PD but I'm telling you it sure does affect the meds that are our lifeline

I’ve come off all my meds - Ropinirole and Sinemet - and I find Senokot more effective than Movicol and Fybogel.

And that IS Most Important. We PDers know our bodies. That is the same problem I am having with cardiologist whi with my primary physician put me on Eloquis which by the way kills a # of afibbers out there with uncontrolled bleeds. It put me in bed all morning for 2 weeks, caused stabbing pain on knees and muscle weakness in extremities. I had trouble thinking. Walking. And yes Rytary seemed ineffective. Ropinirole may have contributed to afibb but even with 2 drug interactions on the internet with Eloquis namely Azilect and Lexapro and afibb warnings for Ropinirole all specialists seem to think these symptoms either don't exist or minimal! There are 2 BlackBox warnings for Eloquis! BACK TO CONSTIPATION: TRY BEANO once daily. I also take Mannitol but I am switching to Xylitol to for this week to see if that helps. Be careful with probiotic supplements. Can create an overload = SIBO. Just my input.

Try a bowl of Bran Flakes with milk before you go to bed every night.

Hi John tried that food doesn't do it ,but Thiamine B1 does I had stopped that thinking that was the culprit I'll give it a few days and start High dose Thiamine again as I was getting a result not only re: constipation relief but also longer periods of 'ON' time and a slight improvement in my sense of smell worth trying there's heaps info on this site and thanks for your advice

I have had success borrowing a method from physiotherapy. I use an inflateable ball that is about 6 or so inches in diameter and laying down I place it under my abdominals and gently roll on it. In addition to stimulating a bowel movement it also massages the visceral organs and the psoas muscle. I learned this from Dr. Kelly Starrett who is a world renowned physical therapist and coach.

Just read your post

That is such a simple technique to try and affordable. And thinking back to diagnosis May 2014 I tried full body massage and did not have C or insomnia. I will search for a ball tomorrow. Thank you!

I had pretty severe constipation for two years, despite a rather high fiber diet. Once I went for a routine pelvic exam and had mentioned the constipation in the health interview - stating that I am literally full of poop. During the exam the NP said I wasn't kidding.

Anyway, taking mitoQ resolved the gut motility issues within a few days. At first I had a lot of flatulence with the mitoQ, so I took a probiotic for a few weeks and that resolved, too. CoQ10 (relatively high dose?) might have also worked.

{Since supps can interact with Rx meds, I would ask my dr. before trying any.}
