hello. my uncle is 73 he has had parkinsons for nearly 10 years. he started antacapone 3 weeks ago with sinemet. this threw him and made dyskinisia worse. now he's stopped the antacapone and just takes the sinemet. however when it wear off he shakes terribly. is this normal? he doesn't seem to cope very well at all and seems down. since changing medication around he doesn't seem to be like he was. is this also normal?

Depending on how often he takes Sinemet he may benefit from the controlled-release, "CR" version. See here to understand the details:
Entacapone increases the availability of levodopa. This can result in dyskinesia which can be addressed by lowering the c/l dose.
I think tremors/dyskinesia/dystonia when going off are fairly common. In my experience these are worse if you are taking too much levodopa (either with or without entacapone).

thank you for this information. hes off the entacapone now and he seems to be better without it. its lovely to hear everyone else's experiences and information about pd. it give myself reassurance and my uncle.
I took Entacapone for a while because it was supposed to help extend the on time and ease dsykensia and it made dsykensia worse. It did help the on time last longer for about a year.
