Osaka-based Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma plans to begin the American trials in fiscal 2022. The goal is to produce a cell transplant treatment that improves the condition of patients with Parkinson's, rather than simply slowing the disease's progress.

It's good that trials are being conducted but it would be good to know what the problem is. There have been a number of trials over several years, so what is the sticking point?
From what I have read elsewhere, the Japanese are using pluripotent stem cells but the cells used are not from the intended recipient so the issue of the PWP brain rejecting them and the subsequent need for meds to suppress that is an issue which is why I am much more enthusiastic about the personalized cell therapy that Massachusettes General is starting. They are looking for PWP who are NOT going to receive the stem cells in their brain but who will volunteer to have pluripotent stem cells made from their cells.
