Hi there Tacitus, my husband started on 1tbs. in coffee after lunch. We got our info at the time (late 2019) from the Syncolein site, got our pharmacist to check the research and off we went with great results.
Good luck. Please let's know how you go.
Gwendoline
Hi Gwen!Thnx for yr reaction.
Which results did you notice and how many months to notice then?
Ruud
May I please ask where you buy your Mannitol? I am located in the USA and haven’t been able to find any. Thanks!
Syncolein is in the US I think. That’s where I got the initial research info on Mannitol and PD. Just google it. It has something in it to overcome the gas problem.
I sourced ours in Australia from a wholesaler. Is imported from Sosa in Spain and is used a diabetic sweetener. Members have accessed it directly from the company in Spain.
Another suggestion if you want a cheaper option than Syncolein is to ask the question in a post here. I’m sure others would have found other options in the US.

I've been taking mannitol since May of 2020. I take 1 tbsp. in bulletproof coffee every morning. I had been taking it in herbal or decaf tea at night, but I had read that it works better with caffeine, so I switched. I really can't tell any difference, but I've continued taking it with caffeine. Someone had also commented that it might be better to take it in divided doses throughout the day, so I tried that for a few weeks, but it made no difference that I could perceive.
Mannitol has given me back my sense of smell and taste, which has improved my appetite and stopped my unwanted weight loss. It gives me more energy and motivation, sharpens my memory, and seems to help my dystonia (not 100% certain about that). Overall, I feel more "normal" (like my pre-PD self) with mannitol.
Thnx for your hopeful message.I am looking forward to a restored sense of smell.
How long did it take before noticing improved sense of smell?
HiIn the meantime trad yr other Posts mentioning the period of smell revovery.
You also mention HDT
I cannot find what it is.
What is hdt?
Ruud
HDT is high dose thiamine. I highly recommend trying it. Here is a website with more information: b14pd.com
I take a heaping teaspoon in coffee every morning and it definitely improved my sense of smell. It only took a few days to notice the improvement. I'm not sure if it helps me with other PD symptoms since I am doing quite well on high dose thiamine but it's easy to take and definitely healthier than using sugar in my coffee.
Recently I added 1200 mgs of horny goat weed(icariin) and that has improved my sense of smell even more. It's wonderful to pick up scents like balsam fir from the Christmas tree or bread baking in the oven. I didn't realize how much I was missing out on. And it makes eating much more enjoyable. Not sure if that's a good thing or not this time of year
Hi DEbI read that ocarina is mainly used to improve libido.
Does it work also on that level?
Not specifically. I mean I'm not chasing my husband around the house but I do feel like I want to socially engage with people more, even if it's only on a zoom meeting. It also gives me energy and my brain feels like it is firing on all cylinders. I've only been taking it for about 3 weeks so I'm still trying to figure out the benefits.
I take one teaspoon of mannitol a day and it seems good for me I believe it reduces constipation and tremors
