Mannitol : I was wondering if anyone has... - Cure Parkinson's
Mannitol
A lot of people on this forum have said they feel it's beneficial. Probably, it does not work for a majority of people, but there is no reason not to try it.
I think it helps with mental clarity. One heaped tsp a day for me. Not sure about dizziness though.
Hi Cindyross, Mannitol works and when it does, it works very well. Read up on the Israeli research which is it has been well researched and examined. However, because it is a relatively cheap and easily available product used for decades in clinical/ hospital settings as intravenous "food" during brain surgery, there's no incentive for pharmaceutical companies to try to monetize the product.
Mannitol is also a popular sugar substitute for diabetics. It's extensively used in baking and confectionery. It's safer than the other sugar substitutes out there. Therefore because there's a lot of non clinical uses for the product, there are lots of manufacturers who don't all deliver a consistent product. It depends on the country that you are in.
Interestingly, the name comes from the name of the biblical food, "manna"!
I didn't benefit initially, but then I recently found a quality brand that does work for me.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for your input I have ordered a two month supply from syncolein.com and I sure hope it helps the dizziness or drunken symptoms I get everyday
This is interesting: ‘I didn't benefit initially, but then I recently found a quality brand that does work and me.’
So what brand of Mannitol do you use? ✨🙏🏾✨
Casey, good morning. The brand is called Biofinest. Here's the link:
biofinest.com/en/supplement...
Interestingly, it also helps me with my tremors. Doesn't do much for constipation, but returned my sense of smell and my overall mobility.
It's made in the USA. Bulksupplements and Modernist Pantry is made in China. Did not work for me.
Difference in quality is immediately obvious. The US made clinical grade one is crystalline and heavy. The Chinese made food grade ones are like fine powdered sugar and fluffy white with a lot of volume.
I'm just pointing out my observation and it is only my opinion based on my experience 😊
If you look in my profile, you'll see our story with Mannitol. My husband's apathy , dizziness and fogginess disappeared very quickly. He's been taking it now for about 10 months and I think he is still improving.
Thanks Gwendoline I saw your story on your your profile page so I Thought what the heck I have nothing to lose I’m gonna try it
Gwendolinej, can you tell us of all the things that you have seen improve and any that have stayed the same?
Most symptoms have improved. Extreme apathy (20hrs on the bed every day) vanished. The dizziness and fogginess he had every morning has completely gone. These symptoms improved very quickly.
His PD mask has definitely reduced. His short term memory amazes me at times.
He is getting fitter because he has the energy and will to exercise and is no longer dizzy or foggy. He is now going to a PD exercise program twice a week as well as 30 minutes on his little peddle bike with his feet daily, then on the table with his hands. Often repeating these again later in the day. In the last few weeks he has also started walking.
He does use a walking stick. I think his walking has improved and should keep improving.
It’s definitely a work in progress.
The one thing that hasn’t improved is his sense of taste. I’ve just ordered some Mannitol from another source. One of our members suggested that one of his suppliers mannitol helped with this, but another didn’t. It’s worth a try.
Now that we are out of lockdown, we are starting to catch up with friends. We weren’t doing this for so long, as he didn’t want to, and then the lockdown came.
My husband has never had a tremor.
I hope I’ve covered all improvements.
No... his voice has improved and he’s not coughing very often when he eats.
That’s it, I’d reckon.
Are you taking Mannitol or about to try it?
Regards
Gwendoline
I am going to see my MDS NEXT MONTH andI will be armed with a list of studies that show the benefits... She just about hit the ceiling at our last meeting when I mentioned it and asked what she knew about it. At that time I didn't know about IV administration for head trauma. Maybe she will not levitate this time!
You may have seen these, but if you Google U.S national Library of Clinical Trial Mannitol and Parkinson’s Disease you will get the articles our neurologist sent us after he’d seen my husband’s amazing improvement.
Until then, we were reacting to the info put on this site re the Israeli research on the Syncolein site and getting our pharmacist to check it. This additional information made it very exciting.
Sorry I Haven’t reply but I broke my ankle and I’ve been in the hospital for the last five weeks I’m going home on Friday And my supply so I guess I’ll let you know how I am doing once I start
Thanks for sharing this really amazing story I wich if you could tell us from where you buy mannitol We try mannitol from isreal but it is very expensive
I don’t know where you are. We get ours from an importer here in Australia. It comes out of Spain and is sold by the wholesaler as a sweetener for diabetic food. I think some members have bought it directly from the supplier in Spain. I had a look in their site and you can communicate in any language. The company is called Sosa. Google sosa.cat. It was very cheap.
Thanks Gwendoline I saw your story on your your profile page so I Thought what the heck I have nothing to lose I’m gonna try it
Should I think you are Aussie, using the word "gonna" 😆Good luck and be patient. It doesn't always work as quickly as it did for my husband. He is still improving I reckon.
Gwendoline
If I’d thought about it, I’d have known you weren’t from here, by the time your email arrived. 4am ish 🤣
I started it About a week ago t get diarrhea every morning. And l don’t feeling very good . I don’t know if I’m taking too much put the scoop that comes with it I Put one scoop in my coffee every morning. Whqt do you think I should do Gwendolyn
. Hi Cindy, I’d perhaps drop the dose. Some members have started with a teaspoon or less, and see what that does. If you’re getting the Mannitol from Syncolein, it would be a tablespoon.
It’s worth a try. Good luck
Gwendoline
Dizziness is often used to refer to lightheadedness upon standing, caused by a drop in blood pressure. The fancy medical term for this is orthostatic hypotension.
CoQ10 has been shown to relieve orthostatic hypotension. See:
