Have been doing Red Light Therapy for my mother since 45 days. Make her wear a hat fitted with red light (670nm wavelength) for 20 minutes, immediately followed by near infra-red light (850nm wavelength) for another 20 minutes, totally for 40 minutes in a session - once in the morning and then once at night ( for a total of 80 minutes in a day)
Have seen real improvement in her walking and gait, overall mood and even appreciable reduction in tremor. Her bad days are no longer bad, but moving towards the 'good-day' end of the spectrum (yes she has alternating 'whole' good days - where she is almost normal, but for minor tremors during her off period, and 'whole' bad days - where she has really bad mood, lot of tremors during the day).
Was wondering if anyone is getting Red Light therapy and has any input to share
Note: Also started giving her Silica water for daily consmption (home made) the day she started red light therapy.

My husband who has now passed, used the Vielight 810 and it worked really well for him. It brought a lot of zest back into his life. I have a long letter here on this site that I wrote about it at the time. I use his old one now, hoping it will keep my brain in good shape longer.
Mate, I have been using a helmet with both those frequencies and have had substantial improvement. Mind you I try so much that I can't say improvement is solely due to the helmet. I bought mine from the men's shed in Launceston, Tasmania Australia for around $300au.
Glad to know that there is improvement. !! Yes, read about a site (Australia) where they sell these helmets ( now costs close to 600 bucks ?). I built 2 hats for less than 100 dollars, including the light strips.
The humble item Merv is holding in this picture is called a Red Light Helmet. Itās used to treat Parkinsonās Disease.
The Dorset Community Men's Shed started making them last year and they have now sold nearly 700 to 16 different countries.
People have reported reductions in tremors, regained fine motor movements, regained mobility, regained smell, cessation of tinnitus among many of the benefits from this wonderful invention.
The Shed sells them for $300 each and you can place your orders with Merv at mrc777@bigpond.com
Perhaps we can find something similar on eBay. in couple different searches I found some interesting items.
Search number one.
Red light 225 LED panel
Search number 2
LED infrared hair growth helmet. They also have caps.
The panel has both 600 and 800 infrared LED lights. In the cap or the helmet they only have in the 600 LED lights. I think you could always hold the panel above your head and behind your head and use it that way. The panels are inexpensive and they can be used till you can get a proper head gear.
Here is a link to instructions for making the Cossack Red Light Hat, which is the original model from the same people who make the Coronet. redlightsonthebrain.blog/20...
Would be good; I know / read that some one built one out of a light shade. But the wire mesh is better as those slots (1/2 inch) allow light to pass nicely and also provide the support to hold the light strip.
"and 'whole' bad days - where she has really bad mood, lot of tremors during the day"
Does this mean the red light therapy is also responsible for creating whole bad days, as you described. If so I wonder if the whole good days and whole bad days cancel out each other and the overall effect of the redlight therapy is not necessarily a positive one but rather a neutral one
No, she had the good day / bad day pattern since 3 years, long before using the light. It has got nothing to do with the red light - only that it has improved quite a bit since using the light.
Make sure you get the light strips that are 5 feet in length ( in the form of a reel). If you do not get 670nm (deep red) then even 660nm is OK; same goes for 810nm (get 850nm instead - both are still 'near infra red'). Note that the near infra red is hardly visible; only dimly visible in the dark, if you really want to see. So do not think that since it does not light up, the light strip does not work ( it heats up a little). Worth trying and hopefully it helps, even as there is no guarantee.
thank you very much for that feedback... can you please be more precise? did you use it daily? how many sessions each day? how long were the sessions? and... did they actually refund you 80%?
I tried to get a refund but I was 10days beyond the deadline. I used it as prescribed for 30 to 40. Days with no symptomatic improvement...got good sleep only..
She still takes the same dose of Carbo/Levo dopa ( 25/100 : 1, 1.5, 1.5, 1) - have not yet made any changes. Will wait for a few more weeks before deciding on reducing the current dose; May go ahead and do a 1,1,1,1 which is a 20% reduction.
As far as wattage is concerned, I do not recollect exactly the details, but use a DC Power Adapter that has 12V, 5 amps specification. Of course you could calculate the wattage knowing these 2 parameters. (similar to the one you would use on a laptop) - some laptops have 12V or 20V and 3 amps or 5 Amps ; I am going by the suggestion of STRICTLY sticking to 12 V and prefer 5 amps to 3 amps current, as the higher amps can handle the power needs of the 5 feet long LEDs Strip safely, without issues.
Below are some useful links. Please make sure you double check and order the right product before ordering. (can get confusing at times as there are a lot of products.)
Thank you. I ordered the 670 and 810 from icreating in July and am still waiting long passed the promised delivery date. They have been non-responsive to all inquiries. I spoke with a very nice man at your other suggestion; they do not currently have the wavelength, but he offered to search his suppliers, which I appreciate.
It takes time as it comes from China. May take almost 2 months as in my case. You may get the tracking number, but it will be dormant for some time, before there are updates.
Reduced my mother's dosage of Levadopa by 20% ( 4 tablets a day now - 1,1,1,1 instead of 5 - 1,1,5,1,5,1). Seems to be doing as good, after a week of reduced dosage.
Interesting, had not heard about this before. Is this light process supposed to be some sort of placebo, or what is the mechanism/route believed to be, and how did it come about to be thought of and tried in the first place?
Another interesting part of the topic...How do you make the silica water? Very curious about it. As in, detailed enough to be a recipe one could follow.
Yes I am aware. But it costs a lot (2 to 3 bucks ? per bottle) compared to a few cents if made at home. Once you have the materials, then it is not difficult at all.
Yes, I watched the video on how to make it. And yes Fiji water is very expensive. Years ago now, I had a hair analysis done and I am full of aluminum. I have no idea how I got it.
Please check out link below ( has the details of making Silica Water, also has details of where you can buy all the ingredients, including the measuring spoon he prefers - under the 'Ordering Information'). The guy is a Ph.D from Harvard and has you tube videos too. Note that this is mainly to get rid of any Aluminum toxicity.
Excellent, thanks! Not about to "spring" for all that Fiji water!! Also since so many cookware (pans especially) degrade aluminum into your food (takes almost nothing to wear out those cheap teflon-type surfaces with as little as a single good burn) was already thinking about a less-than-pharmaceutical chelating solution for my mate who is working on a progressive dementia anyway and tends to burn through pans without realizing it (getting those horribly destructive flourine- and heat-fused dense carbons into your food is hard enough to counter as it is)...
Hopefully it will help your mate. If you read the article in the link provided, Prof. Dennis Cruouse's (the author and the person in the video) mother was diagnosed with Dementia/Alz. when she was 86 years old and she has been having silica water since then and is now 93 and doing well, a lot lot better than she was at 86 and is living with her husband and taking care of herself. At such an advanced age taking care of oneself is the greatest a blessing!. Worth trying and if your mate has Aluminum toxicity, it will benefit him. Silica binds with Aluminum found in the body and is excreted via sweat and urine. You should see positive benefits in 15 to 20 weeks or earlier. (based on feedback on the you tube website). Please note that I am not a doctor and you should do more research before making your decision.
For those people who aren't able to make the light hats themselves, Dr Catherine Hamilton, the original designer of the deep red (670nm) and near infra-red (810nm) bucket light hats now has a much more powerful version made called the Coronet.
Made it on my own by ordering the LED strips online. I guess there should be no problem to get the LED delivered to India. Most of the parts are from China.
I have provided the links in a reply to another poster.
I came soooo close to ordering one of these a few years ago. My partner bought one and now wears it at bedtime where she reads for forty or so minutes. (Grrrrrrrrrr) (!)
Perhaps with your endorsement, I will finally purchase one, and join her!
Sincerely hope that it helps you. (Has helped my mother with sleep, gait, posture and to some extent even her mood - that may be related to her improved sleep pattern). I use it on her twice a day ( 2 sessions) ; each session is : 20 minute for Red light, followed by another 20 minutes for near Infra red, for a total of 40 minutes per session. Once in the morning after she has her cup of coffee (that is her breakfast) and then before going to bed in the night.
There several red light & NIr devices on Amazon that are flat panels of varying size for under $200. Have you done any research or do you know if it has to be a wearable helmet or do you think of flat panel close to one's head might work, too?
Also, I thought I read somebody's comment that the 1 of the companies is offering up 6 month trial basis and will return 80% of the cost if you're not happy. Have you heard of that?
Sorry for the delayed reply. I have no idea about the flat panels and how effective they are / if they can be placed close to one's head. I built the helmets out of a reel of LEDs ( 5 meters long).
I am sure it will be worth the effort and the savings. All the best with using the helmet. Still using it on my mother - twice a day, each session of 40 minutes (20 minutes of red light followed by 20 minutes of near infra red). Trying to do these little things that may be helpful.
Hi. You may have sent an update on how you are doing in regards to using the red light therapy, if you have, I missed it. Can you send an update?I just bought a book written by Ari Whitten called "The Ultimate Guide to Red Light Therapy". It explains a lot of things I had questions on.
i.e. Details on what devices to look for as far as size, wattage, dosing, how far to stand from the device to get the best use, etc. You can over or underdo it. In layman terms he explains how to do the calculations. Might be a good read if you want to get the most benefit.
please tell me the specific red light device you are using, thanks
I began using red light treatment and about the same time started taking a MAOI Rasagaline with Kinsen. I found I had less bradykinesia could move more freely but I wasn't sure what was given proving my PD condition (diagnosed four years ago, I am 72). This effect has continued and up maintain both. So I continued using Symbyx red light treatment for 20 minutes three times a week. I decided to experiment and did the treatment (mainly focused on stomach) four days straight and I noticed a remarkable change. My tremor which the medication does not affect was suddenly gone for about three or four hours a day. The next day it was a bit more broken and while I've continued with the red light treatment daily I believe the effect is wearing off. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this or something similar? Or could there be an explanation?
