I have ordered a red light therapy pad which I am using since yesterday, on the back of my head in the morning and top of my head in the evening for 10 mins 660nm and 10 mins 850nm, both pulsing at 10 Hz.
I feel groggy after using it with a worsening of symptoms. Is this normal?

It is thought that the mitochondrial improvement associated with red light therapy (RLT) may be because RLT is thought to increase melatonin production which could potentially be at least a partial explanation for the groggy feeling. Try doing your treatments shortly before bedtime to see if it helps you sleep.
Another consideration is to also apply the RLT mat to your spine. The reason for this is because PwP halve elevated inflammatory markers such as TNF alpha and IL-8 in their cerebrospinal fluid and if RLT increases melatonin production in the mitochondria, the melatonin can help to reduce these inflammatory mediators in the cerebrospinal fluid and that should be helpful for the PD brain.
To the best of my knowledge, I don't think that question has an answer yet. At present it is known that RLT can increase serotonin and dopamine levels. So if you are already taking C/L, it seems possible that you could become mildly overdosed. This could be somewhat similar to if you take Citicoline without adjusting your C/L dose downward at the same time, since citicoline is thought to increase the density of dopamine receptors, it has allowed some people to halve their C/L dose. I hadn't heard anyone else report what they thought were mild overdose symptoms from using the available RLT crowns.
' A total of 7 studies (2 crossover, 3 randomized controlled, and 2 open prospective studies) were included. Despite the varied outcome tools, this review found that patients with PD who were taking citicoline had significant improvement in rigidity, akinesia, tremor, handwriting, and speech. Citicoline allowed effective reduction of levodopa by up to 50%. Significant improvement in cognitive status evaluation was also noted with citicoline adjunctive therapy. '
The Duo Coronet contains LEDS in two wavelengths – 670nm, the deep red and 810nm near-infrared.The program lasts 24 minutes in total. It starts with 12 minutes of deep red 670nm followed immediately by 12 minutes of near-infrared 810nm. Both wavelength are pulsed at 40Hz. At the end of the 24 minute session, the Duo Coronet automatically turns itself off.
Hello, I have used the device sold by Wellred Australia (in the shape of a crown) for two years daily in the morning without any Ill effects. It uses a 24 minute cycle split inntwo12 minute sessions. I would read up about it as you may be using too strong a setting. My wife who doesn’t have PD has successfully used the Therapad also made by Wellred for arthritis in her hand and found two sessions to be enough , any longer and it felt like she had “burned” her hand.
So my symptoms increased and grogginess seems to be stemming from high BP. It was 152/98 when checked at home yesterday.
That it started during the RLT session may be a side effect or simply a coincidence.
If the high BP is due to PD damage to the brain, then is there any way to reverse it? I am not too keen on BP meds, as they will not treat the root cause.
