The radiograph shows calcium deposits in the joint capsule. The other radiograph is the podiatrist's own ankle for comparison.

The podiatrist says the spike of bone pushing on the Achilles from beneath is the cause of the ankle pain. But surgery removed the spike and the PRP so far hasn't helped. A closer look at the radiograph shows calcium deposits in the joint capsule. Nothing to do with PD, likely it's plain old arthritis due to age.

Arthritis causes calcium buildup in joints.

Yes but what triggers arthritis to begin with? Some say micro-tears in the joint capsule is the root cause.

True, arthritis tends to be somewhat even unless one has joints previously injured. Injuries tend to trigger worse arthritis. Eating raw acidic fruit helps some with arthritis.
