It seems to me that there are a lot of people who are taking medications which stop working or are not helping but then are causing other problems like withdrawal symptoms and other side effects. what do you all think?
Is Sinemet And/Or Other Allopathic medica... - Cure Parkinson's
Is Sinemet And/Or Other Allopathic medications For Parkinson's Disease actually a chemical stressor on the nervous system?
Symptoms - What doctors are obsessed with trying to Artificially manipulate without ascertaining the causes and origins of the disease.
Is Drugging the symptoms the way forward? No.
Is Finding The cause Of these symptoms the way to go?

Thank you for asking this question. Although researchers can not be certain on what exactly causes Parkinson's, it is thought that toxins such as pesticides, mercury fillings and the like are involved, as is heavyweight boxing (Muhammad Ali) blows to the head. I have also read that taking in dairy may also be connected. You are right about neurologists not addressing the cause when diagnosing at least in my case. No mention was made, I have learnt what I know through my own reading. Yes, all i have been offered is allopathic medication and in my case it has only been partially successful in dampening some of my symptoms. At various times I have been offered sleeping tablets too; no mention of alternative methods such as sleep restriction.
Of course, in addition to drugs there is also DBS and to be fair some PwP who have had it have seen the quality of their lives improve. But, none of the NHS treatment addresses the possible cause(s).
I have often wondered whether addressing my diet would slow down the progress of my Parkinson's and this is what I am attempting now. Whether damaged neurons can be repaired/replaced with taking nutrients,I don't know, but there are people here who have seen a reversal of some symptoms as has John Pepper with his walking exercise regime. Trouble is, no organisation will put money into researching these methods further, so, we are left to devise our own regimes and thankfully these people share in their successes no matter how minor.

the only other treatment our neurologist goes along with is physical therapy. I have asked her about CoQ10, coconut oil, etc. She is all about prescription medications.
hello cjsg, neurologists aren't trained in nutrition, neurologists are brain and nervous system specialists who dish out medications that don't treat the condition only the symptoms, chiropractors more so upper cervical chiropractors are brain and central/nervous system specialists but don't do medications but can help in many other ways.
Is There another way?
I too really appreciate this train of thought. Not one of my husband's neurologist have given him any practical advice regarding diet when there is actually quite a bit out there on the subject. I have just finished David Perlmutter's book Grain Brain - it has tonnes of practical and very specific advice concerning diet and brain health as it pertains to degenerative brain diseases, all backed up with scientific study. I don't know why our neurologists have not said anything of this valuable information, even when we questioned them.
Have any of you read this book? I really recommend it. I do believe that there are things that PWP can do to improve their situations naturally and am frustrated that this information is not part of our main stream medical care.
Hello rtag, I believe a combination of factors are associated with the onset of Parkinson's, i.e - trauma, physical emotional and/or chemical stress ( which includes medications), Heavy metal toxicity/Neurotoxins ( Vaccines, Mercury fillings, The flu shot ),The nervous system, vitamin B12 deficiency and Magnesium deficiency ( low digestive gut flora = high candida albicans levels = low serotonin = poor sleep patterns.
Serotonin is a major neurotransmitter for regulating the sleep/wake cycle .
Did you know that margarine has Hydrogenated oils also know as trans fats in it?
which are now believed to be toxic to the brain also helping to re-wire the neural pathways ( years of eating cookies, biscuits, cakes made with margarine maybe).
There are no two people alike with Parkinson's but there are really good basic protocols that can be undertaken right away.
i could post it here if you are interested ( it involves no medications )
I've not read the book but I will Google and get a review on it.
Can i ask 'Did your husband suffer physical trauma?
I would very much like your ideas. My husband was in a car accident when he was 18 with sever trauma to his head. One side of his face has major nerve damage, broke his jaw and crushed all the bones in his inner ear so he is deaf in that ear, he also had alot of other environmental factors that lead to the PD
cjsg, i've done a few posts on physical trauma on the PSP site but was told basically that it was nonsense but i believe trauma could be one of a few triggers to Parkinson's.
An upper cervical chiropractor could be very helpful, there are good and bad chiropractors as there are in other professions in all walks of life, they do x-rays on the head/neck and spine to see if there is a misalignment, if there is that could be the reason why there is pain.
Does Your husband have a forward head posture? i.e his neck has no curve ( its called the arc of life).
A Basic Protocol.
Detoxification - A protocol to detox the brain and nervous system of heavy metals and/ or neurotoxins is a must.
By detoxing you will cleanse the blood of toxins which causes Arthritis and of course mercury, aluminium, cadmium.
There Is a product in Europe called Deep Cell Detox, i have used this to detox myself from mercury poisoning, this was the main part of my protocol. here is what's in it.
Seagreens - MSM Organic Sulphur - R-Alpha-Lipoic Acid & Acetyl-L-Carnitine and Sodium Ascorbate.
I do not work for any company that sells this product, it was quite cheap and it worked for me.
Vitamin B12 - Methylcobalamin 1mg three or more times a day.
Methylcobalamin is a form of bio-active B12 that is well absorbed and crosses the blood brain barrier more effectively than other forms of B12. This makes it suitable for general/systemic wide B12 deficiency, and more uniquely for brain/nerve disorders. It is the form of vitamin B12 that is active in the central nervous system. It is essential for cell growth and replication.
Vitamin D3 4000iu One a Day - Its really good for the immune system and infections.
Magnesium Chloride oil - Magnesium is one of the key minerals for regeneration; it is used in over 350 enzymatic reactions in the body, more than any other mineral. Next to Oxygen & Iodine, Magnesium is the third most important element for sustaining life as well as reversing disease and aging.
Diet - A major change in what you eat would be of great benefit, if possible organic meats, fruits, and Vegetables.
Healthy Fats - olive oil, coconut oil, fish oil/omega 3.
Water - filtered water if possible and up to 2 litres a day .
No breakfast cereals with anything added-
Sugar- All Types, only natural sugars.
No sodas diet or otherwise, no package foods, microwavable meals, no tin products ( SERIOUSLY ),
There are no enzymes in these types of food which leads to digestive problems, acid reflux and other ailments of the gut.
You really have to get back to food which is for want of a better word, Raw.
Basically, as Dr.John Bergman says ' if man makes it don't eat it!
Stress- The Body reacts to chemical, emotional and physical Stress in exactly the same way.

What he says about medications?
Is this the scenario that happens with neurological conditions:
We start with vaccines from childhood, years of eating toxic food products, the flu jab, mercury fillings, grilling food stuffs on aluminium foil, drinking out of aluminium tin cans, medications that are toxic to our system ( all medications, if doctor gives it to you its toxic), which help slowly weaken the immune and nervous system and with age once those systems fail and we can't fight off these toxins anymore which leads to these Neurological conditions?
The Same as above but this time the trigger is trauma ( this could happen at any age), physical trauma, i.e
Car accidents, major falls resulting in a head/neck injury, playing physical sports, compromising the blood brain barrier which causes neurological conditions in people of a young age?.
My opinion is a major lifestyle change is a must, what we eat and drink becomes US and if its not good for us it will slowly kill us.
Not for one minute am i saying or implying to stop taking your medications but one thing for sure is they are toxic to the body long term and that is fact.
Exercise - its a must do, it helps to keep the immune system strong and healthy, helps lower stress, it helps keep good muscle tone, good lung function, cognitive function it even helps with sleep issues.
When you sweat from exercise the body excretes the toxins in the body and drinking plenty of good filtered water will aid the body with the detox.
Also your metabolism will improve from exercise.
what you say about diet and exercise is very true imho. exercise and a good diet fight depression. which is a very real tendency in pwpd- if we're not getting depressed mood as one of the symptoms of pd, we can easily get depressed if we have a more aggressive form of the disease..and can see its gradual progression. my spiritual trainings tell me to relax, accept things as they are, dont get caught up in concepts (like "I'm slowly losing it") be grateful for the many blessings, and be thankful that things aren't even worse than they are, lol!
You are spot on one-w-pd, meditation and learning how to relax to lower your stress responses are essential to your well being.
When you are diagnosed with Parkinson's your stress levels go up and stay high because you are now living with this condition everyday, worrying 'what can i do to change this situation, and everyday this goes on, this is an emotional stress on the body..
We have to believe this condition can be reversed.
I think it can be.
reversing pd ? i believe in miracles, vjessv, without expecting i can summon them. this entire universe is a miracle, this lush green world, our human lives, the times when we enjoy being healthy and times when we endure being ill. just being is miraculous. that said, i'd be very happy if i could "just be" without pd. short of it being reversed, there are times when the meds keep my symptoms far enough at bay that i can forget about pd, immerse myself in my work, and in that way live without pd, for awhile.
With Parkinson's is this something that has changed our physiology gene wise,
so maybe its not something we are born with but something we have acquired along the path of life.
The nervous system comes under attack and the immune system because of poor lifestyle choices and certain medications it can't fight it anymore especially when people reach an age where they became sedentary. (Seniors?)
That is why i believe it starts with toxins that attack the brain and nervous system.
If anyone has any ideas on how Parkinson's and or any other neurological conditions manifest themselves, i would love a discussion on this..
To Question Is To Grow..
Thanks for that Adrian,
None was taken on my part, it was just her tone.
I thought this was worth a read, the bit about magnesium at the end was interesting.
